Donald D. “Don” Higley, 80, of Coudersport, PA

Donald D. “Don” Higley 
“beloved husband, father, and grandfather”

Donald D. “Don” Higley, 80, of Coudersport, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.

Born September 21, 1933 in Oswayo, he was a son of Harold B. and Lila Kemp Higley. On June 6, 1954 in Ceres, he married Beverly J. VanDruff, who survives.

Don was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, Class of 1951. He worked several years as a carpenter before receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Bonaventure University. He earned his Master’s degree in Education from Mansfield University. 

Don was employed as a math teacher at Coudersport High School retiring after 29 years of service. After retirement, he drove for Adelphia Communications, Stoltz Auto, and E & G Auto, all of Coudersport.

He was a longtime resident of Coudersport. Don had a great faith and trust in the Lord and was a very active member of the Coudersport Alliance Church where he served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and board member. He was a member of P.S.E.A. and the Coudersport Golf Club. He was also a talented carpenter and woodworker. 

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Stuart E. (Virginia) Higley of Huntington Beach, California; a daughter, Ann E. Horn of Coudersport; a grandson, David E. (Coleen) Horn of Coudersport; a granddaughter, Cristy Higley of Huntington Beach, California; three great-grandchildren, Darian, Joshua, and Isabella; a brother, Earl (Marjorie) Higley of Myerstown; a sister, Harriet Brown of Warsaw, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by a daughter, Naomi Sue Higley.

Friends may call at the Coudersport Alliance Church, 7 Alliance Avenue, Coudersport, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at which time funeral services will follow with the Rev. Joe C. Lazurek, pastor, officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined and will be provided by the family. 

 Memorials may be made to Coudersport Alliance Church, 7 Alliance Avenue, Coudersport, PA 16915.
