IF YOU'RE HEADED TO GREENMAN HILL-DON'T GO

IF YOU'RE HEADED TO GREENMAN HILL-DON'T GO. Helen and I just spent half an hour on top waiting to go down the other side toward Coudersport. It's a sheet of ice and absolutely no cinder trucks out/ At one time there were seven trucks and cars skidding all over and some across the highway. I called PSP and they sent a car out but by that time some had managed to turn around and head back toward Shinglehouse- We rode the berm all the way down the hill. Please stay in tonight and stay safe

Hey PennDOT Wake up!!!!!

I do not understand why there are no sanders out anywhere! It's not just PENDot. It's all over! This is not a sudden event! Unacceptable! I hope the rest of the winter isn't like this! Someone should be held accountable for this!

omg people the where out tonight i seen pen dot with my own to eyes stop bitching they can't be all over at once or just stay off the road

I came over that hill about 5:10 pm following a cinder truck plowing and putting cinders down...

Well let's see if they go out and plow they pay overtime and they have to pay more for the upkeep of the equipment. Not to mention the price for cinders/salt.... Then you all will complain when taxes go up.... So stay home or pay more pick one.

I went up that hill at 4;30 and Penndot was coming down but it was still slippery - just that kind of slippery snow on that road surface! It is winter; slow down& learn how to drive!

@ 7:02:00

I agree.

We live on a road-way that a PennDOT station uses. About a hour and a half before dark, I watched 3 or 4 huge dump trucks (PennDOT trucks) loaded full of sand pass..they're doing their job..

For the most part, unless it's an emergency, stay off the damn roads. Bug-in at home, stay safe and have a wonderful night.

I'm sick of people bitching about Penn Dot all the time. My Dad put in over 25 year's to help to keep your families safe, but all you do it bitch about it. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they are not out. I used to have Thanksgiving/ Christmas/ New Year's and my Birthday with out my Dad because he got called out to work. This will be the first year in over 25 year's that I will get to spend with him because he retired. I have more family and friends out there doing their jobs, while you sit on your computer and bitch about it. If you feel that the work my family and friends are doing isn't enough, why don't you hook up a plow to your vehicle and go buy some sand or salt to put on the roads ? Until then shut the F*** up about it.

Barring mandatory work, we usually have a few days heads up to stockpile food & medical rations. Be safe and prepare & stay indoors.

Maybe the people who bitch about penndot should get out there and help them.

Stop your complaining about Penn Dot, Stay off the roads when the weather forecast has flashed that there would be a winter storm coming, I was in Olean today & as soon as I saw the storm coming I left to go home & thank God I got home before it got bad, so use your common sense & for goodness sakes stop blaming Penn Dot for your own STUPIDITY!!

PennDOT guys can't go out unless they're called out by their forman. State's always trying to save money cause you're all bitching about your tax dollars. You can't have it both ways people. They don't have enough trucks either. Half of the ones they do have are junk or broke down not to mention the pay is piss poor and the job is dangerous and most of the time thankless too.

I have to agree with the majority of posters here. PennDot can't be everywhere and honestly, unless you have to go to work or have an emergency, just stay home when the roads are bad. I did what shopping I had to do right in town today and then just went home, can't get in too much trouble going 25 mph right in town I hope.

come on now people, don't we go thru this every winter, everybody is doing the best they can!its Potter Conty for Gods sake, unless you HAVE to go on the roads, stay in and warm!!!This is just the beginning of the season!

If you are too scared to drive in it then stay home! You are more of a hazard than the snow is!

Thanks Shirley for the warning about Greenman Hill. The people that were out before the storm still have to get home. That hill is always a trouble spot and that should be one of the first places to get sanded. To the one's that said long hours and low pay, come on give me a break. When they do sand they put a little sprinkle down the center lane and that's supposed to be sufficient. Now talking about during the school week when children are on the buses and vans Penn Dot rarely gets out early enough in the mornings. A lot of buses and vans are out at 6:30 am on terrible roads. Penn Dot doesn't start until after the children are already in school. I guess they are hoping for the sun to do there work. Sad situation with Penn Dot in our area.

Wow. The first snow we get and immediately people are bashing the workers at PennDot. Really ? You were on a specific stretch of road and you didn't see a cinder truck anywhere ? Hmmm....let me guess, the first image in your head was a penndot worker laying in his pajamas all snug in his bed while you are out fighting the elements right ? LOL !!! Get real people. They are out there. There are a LOT of roads to cover and only so many trucks to do it with. They're not race cars ! You see how slow they have to travel to get the sand on the roads. Do us all a favor and just stay home. All winter. Or move south. Thanks.

My dad and husband worked for Penndot. We spent many Thankgiving and Christmas without them because they were out on those roads so other people could make it to their holiday family gatherings. Do you know what its like to be celebrating holidays without your loved one with you.

I don't think people are bashing penndot. I think what they are saying is it for forecasted days in advance. They should of prepared in advance, not after several wrecks have taken place and people were stranded. This is 2013. People have to go out on the road. Just be ready for it is what they are saying.

Anonymous said...

we went buy the wrecks on rt 6 and for your info penn dot was all ready thew there...people just need to slow down..
good job pen dot for doing your job and giving us safty god be with you all

the big thing is people don't know how to drive every one got to go 100 miles an hour slow down to 25 miles an hour and learn howto drive people get four drive cars and think let can go fast wrong four wheel will you kill faster then a two wheel drive they need to give driver test on ice there wont be to many drivers out here

Remember, the driver coming towards you has YOUR life in their hands.
