Seneca Highlands CTC Nearing Completion of 2nd Modular Home

Seneca Highlands CTC Nearing Completion of 2nd Modular Home
The Seneca Highlands Career & Technical Center (CTC) believes that many people learn best through a practical hands-on approach to learning a new skill. An example of how this is applied is through the construction of a Modular Home in the CTC's Building Construction Program. The first modular home constructed by the CTC was a project for Potter County Habitat for Humanity, which provided the students with hands-on learning and met a need for a local family.

The Building Construction Program's current project is a 1,320 square foot home that is nearing completion. When finished, the three bedroom two bath home will be ready for installation on a basement or foundation. The only elements of the home that would need completed by the homeowner are the installation of a heating system, installation of flooring in the bedrooms, transporting and setting the home on a foundation, and connecting to utilities. This project has provided students with a tremendous learning opportunity. During construction, they learn about framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, finish carpentry, siding, roofing, and many other skills.

The CTC is currently looking for someone interested in buying the home, and being involved in the final design elements of the home including flooring, cabinetry, and countertops. Proceeds from the sale of the home are used to purchase the materials needed to construct the next home project at the CTC. The instructor, instructional aides, administration, and students do not receive any compensation from the sale of the home. The estimated sale price for this home is $45,000 or approximately $34 per square foot, which is significantly less than the $100 - $120 per square foot cost of most new construction. Perspective buyers should contact the CTC at (814) 642-2573 for more information.
