Woman Warns Of Scam Hitting Area

Woman Warns Of Scam Hitting Area
Hello,
My name is Crystal Smith and I am from Wellsboro. I was hoping you could let your followers know about a scam that seems to be going around that I was not aware of until the phone call I received today. The caller tells you that you have been selected for a government grant. They ask you to verify your address, they already had mine. Then they give you a grant money number and tell you to call another number. I did this, when you call the next number they explain to you how you qualified, then they ask you to go to a money gram store, or western union and pay $270 and within 10 minutes you will have $7000 plus the $270 you paid up front.. I did not fall for this scam, I did however follow all the steps except give them money so that I could get as much information as I could so that I could help warn others in the area. They are claiming they are from New York. I called the State Attorney Generals office, and they are aware of the scam, however I have not heard about this one in our area.

Thank you for your time
Crystal Smith

People need to make the elderly aware in their communities. Most people who spend time online are aware of these sort of scams, but folks who do not have internet or social media in their everyday lives...these are the people they are hoping will answer the phone. Share this information with your families and friends. The best way to prevent them from being scammed is to make them aware. Maybe local senior centers could address these type of issues in their newsletters or gatherings. People who do this sort of thing are real dirtbags.
