Debunking the Myth of LGBT Discrimination

Debunking the Myth of LGBT Discrimination
The Salvation Army
For years, Facebook posts, forwarded emails and rumors have been leading some people to believe that The Salvation Army does not serve members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. These accusations simply aren't true.

Since its founding nearly 150 years ago, The Salvation Army has lived out its mission: To meet human needs in His name, without discrimination. People who come to the Army for assistance will be served according to their need and our capacity to help - regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

Some Internet postings originate in remarks made in a radio interview by Australian Major Andrew Craibe reported by the Truth Wins Out organization. It is emphatically noted that Major Craibe's comments do not reflect the views, policies, beliefs, or teachings of The Salvation Army anywhere in the world at any time in history.

We acknowledge that because of our size and scope, occasionally one of our millions of employees and volunteers might say or do something that does not reflect our values. We address these incidents as soon as they arise.

The Salvation Army believes that all people are equal, regardless of sexual orientation or any other factor, including race, gender and ethnicity.

The People We Serve
Each year, thanks to generous donations, The Salvation Army serves nearly 30 million Americans - or one person every second - from a variety of backgrounds. People who come to us for assistance will be served according to their need and our capacity to help - regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

Well I don't think you should support that group and if that is your stance, I will no longer donate to you kettles or any other thing to do with Salvation Army. You were founded on Christian Biblical principals and you should not yield to the anti Christian Political correctness going on

Mr/Ms I Will No Longer Donate ...

"Those kind of people" live and work EVERYWHERE on this planet. Are you planning on moving off the planet?

While we are all complaining about gays, A&E, duck dynasty millionaires and freedom of speech, who is watching out for how many laws DC is passing that will further kill the middle class?

DC has played us like this time and time again before.

Good nobody wants your money you stupid bigot! I find it very hypocritical that your "good book" says treat everyone with kindness and love thy neighbor. So because you are Christian you are better than everyone? You are so stupid. This wonderful country despite what you thing was not founded on Christian belief. It was founded on freedom of any religion. We as americans have the right to find happiness. Leave gay people alone, I personally don't understand it but who the hell am I to tell them how to live their life. They are not second class citizens. They are like you and I. I find it refreshing that in this world we live in we have a program like the salvation army are there to help out anybody regardless of sexual preference, race, belief, gender, or political platform you belong to. Oh and its my understanding that 99.9% of the people who complain about gay people are actually gay. So come out call your parents, family, and friends and tell them your secret that you are gay and I'm sure you will fill alot better going I into 2014 with nothing to hide.

12:44 Their goal is to support people, period. Evidently your "Christian Bible Principals" exclude certain people??? What would Jesus do?

Anonymous said...

Hey 12:44...maybe you should get your Bible out.

Matthew 7:1-3

King James Version (KJV)

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

@ 12:44 They did not state that they cater to the lgtb community, they only stated that they will serve them as they do anyone else. What should they do if say a homosexual comes to them and says they need help because their heat is going to be shut off? In your opinion, they should be turned away for their sexual orientation. That is not very Christ-like in my opinion. The Salvation Army exists to serve all, no matter their color, gender or if they happen to be lgtb. I think that is what Christ would do. I will continue to support the Salvation Army in their quest to serve all. Have a Merry Christmas!!

Loving people is an anti-Christian principal??

I think you should read your Bible again.

How about this scripture:

Romans 5:8
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Jesus didn't just feed, clothe, and provide physical possessions for humans with all of their flaws (we all have them!), rather, he DIED for all of flawed creation. Sacrificed His very life!

As Christians, it is not an optional thing to care for the 'least of these' -- it is a direct command.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Matthew 25

There are no scriptures in the Bible commanding anyone to correct others' faults, flaws, or things we disagree with before they are worthy of Christ's or our love.

12:44, as a Christian, I can say you (and a LARGE number of LOUD Americans) have no clue what it is to be a Christian.

You know how to be political. You know how to band together with those like you and condemn and yell and scream that YOUR faith is under attack.

But you have no clue what it is to be a Christian. You could not be more alienated with the religion you claim to be a member of if you would deny the Salvation Army (and probably hop on facebook to tell your other "christian" friends to do the same) all the good they do because they're able to feel compassion where YOU ARE NOT.

Jesus told you to love everyone and treat them as well as he treated you. Even your enemies.

He told you to love unconditionally.

He told you not to judge. That all humans sin and that all sins are equal.

What part of that do American "Christians" not understand?

You rationalize your hate and spite of people you personally find disgusting, offensive and different to you.

Be careful "Christians". You may find at the end of your days, that Christ does not recognize you when you meet him.

You claim to be a Christian? Better go back to reading that bible.

To everyone else, TY! That was so refreshing reading all those comments and such. Im afraid I lost faith in church and of the "Christians" because of those like 12:44. And its not just some of the congregation, but Ive noticed some preachers even have lost touch with what the bible says. Its sad. I have finally over the years gave up on believing in the churches and relying on them to support my spiritual needs, and instead, I stay to myself and family instead and choose to believe in God and Jesus my own way and do my best to live in such a way that when my time comes, I hope that they will see the life I lived, and deem me worthy of heaven still. But after reading the SA artical, and then all the responses...well, I might just try again sometime.

Can't we all just get along and stop nitpicking at each other and being offended at every little thing? Gay-straight-black-purple-yellow-white-old-young-male-female. We are ALL made in God's image. I pray for peace among your people this time of year Lord. That we may all find love for our brothers and sisters in the same way that you love all of us unconditionally. Amen

Replace "homosexual" with "pedifile" or "druggy" or "gangster". Now, would we be having this same conversation?

Anonymous said...

Where in the bible does it say marriage is between two men or two women? Where in any religion does it say being gay is fine with God , Allah , Jesus or for that matter any God that has ever been worshiped throughout history!!

Anonymous said...

some of you are church going bigots

religion... for people who can't think for themselves !!

Anonymous said...

Not one of us can cast the first stone! We are not the Judge & God help us for judging others, Jesus says, "We are to love the sinner & hate the sin, as He loves everyone of us who are sinners, He died for everyone of us too! again, Can any of us cast the first stone? I think not!

Anonymous said...

they also do that for all the inmates in state and federal jails so you should not feel the special

Anonymous said...

They are just debunking a myth, and stating they cater to everyone. Do you actually think that they would ask someone if they were lgbt and be like, nope not serving you, go rot! No. It's like if someone started a rumor saying they don't cater to cancer patients etc. That be crazy. It's 2013 your nuts if you base your opinion off of radical beliefs on a book that was created thousands of years ago. That's a lot of time for people to preach the wrong belief. Treat others as you would want to be treated.
Love all,
Your friend the Atheist
P.S. happy holidays! <3

There will always be cranky venomous angry judgmental holier-than-thou busy bodies who's feces are lacking odor.

These are quick to pick up and cast the first stone (and the second and so on).

They can call themselves Christians, Martians, who cares? They will always be fueled by their anger and spite, always focused on being a busy-body about someone elses lives, as if they are somehow worthy to judge.

Leave these people to their anger and venom. It's all they have left. They will always be yelling at the world.

Ironically, it's usually them crying about how THEY are being persecuted.

There seem to be a lot of references to what the bible says, but how convienient no one mentions what it says about homosexuality.

Anonymous said...

12:54 yeah! The bible says it's bad!

Right in the same section of the old testament where it never covers cutting your hair, no tattoos, stoning people to death for eating shellfish, and banishing women who are on their period, being sure to burn everything they happen to touch.

lol

Let's list all the quotes Jesus made about hating people that are gay:

hmmm, that's awkward, I couldn't find any.

Let's make a list of all the times Jesus says homosexuality is wrong:

hmmm, that's awkward, I could find any.

I know,
Let's just make a list of where Jesus even MENTIONS homosexuality:

hmmm, you aren't going to believe this. I couldn't find any???

Just this section where everyone that basically got off Noah's ark and (re)populated the planet with their brothers and sisters

(the second time in the old testament they claim this to happen)

Surely Jesus must have brought this up.

I mean, I know he said to love everyone, but surely he didn't mean EVERYone. Right?

It's almost like the guy wanted us to focus on loving each other despite our differences, instead of sitting around pointing the differences out and judging each other?

This is crazy. I'm done with all of this.

I'm going to worship Republican Jesus, (he likes guns and ass kicking!).

It comes with a Republican Bible that actually says all the crap I'm always making up and saying is in there.

Or maybe we can just stop with the whole Christ thing entirely?? Can we all just worship the book of Leviticus? (We can call ourselves Leviticians. It even sounds cool)

That way, we can hate and judge and even kill, all we want,

and just pretend all those far more important instructions from Jesus don't apply!

12:54, Jesus loves the sinners! & He hates the sin, homosexuality is a sin! God created Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve!
Are you without sin than you cast the first stone!
So does that help you on what the bible says, we did not make it a convenience not to mention what the bible says, pick it up & read it for your self!

Anonymous said...

I thought some key fundamentals of Christianity were 'love thy neighbor' and 'judge not lest ye be judged'.
Problem with the Christian Right is they pick and choose scripture to meet their agenda.

Anonymous said...

4:26 the gay community picks and chooses bible quotes like you just did to meet your agenda! The bible says it's wrong period! Every religion in the world ever since records have been kept says it's wrong! Tell me one verse from any religion that says being gay is good just one.

Haters are gonna hate. Can I have an amen?

Anonymous said...

Amen.

Anonymous said...

Those of you out there quoting Scripture and putting down one persons thoughts need to look a little deeper. You say what would AJesus do. Well lets look back and see what God did. in the old testament there were two towns called Sodom and gamora. These towns being aligned to sodomy and all sorts of nasty things, God destroyed them. thats how God feels about Homosexals.

Anonymous said...

I'm not a hater i just want one quote from any religious text that states being gay is a good thing! And i see no one can do it because it doesn't exist! Can i get an AMEN !

Anonymous said...

If this group helps Homos, Jews, blacks Latinos, or Catholics it does not deserve a penny of our money. We need to look out for God fearing white men. That's who built this country. We are a Christian Country lets start acting like it!

Anonymous said...

Oh wait, cramming stuff up your ass is ok and natural. Take God out of the picture for a moment and look at the biology. What you do with your body is your own business but it is not right nor does it serve any purpose. Hows that for food for thought. Pretty damn clear to me...

10:30 what do you want? recognition cause you think you are right, for pete's sake, there is scripture stating if man sleeps with man, God will put them to death & if woman sleeps with woman, God will put them to death, Now get real, How many gay people have died ??? apparently you do not read the Bible so why not pick it up & find it for yourself!!!!
