“Economics of Grazing”

Clarion, PA –How to evaluate and improve the soil, forage, and animal components of grazing operations to make a positive economic impact will be the subject of the 17th annual Northwest Pennsylvania Grazing Conference. The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Zion Church located 3 miles south of Interstate 80, exit 62, near Clarion.

This year’s conference will feature Gearld Fry and Jerry Brunetti. Gearld, from Bovine Engineering and Consulting, will cover how to maximize the returns from your grazing operation and breed for efficient, high performance cows. Jerry, founder of Agri-Dynamics Inc., will discuss pasture system health including, soil mineral fertility and plant biodiversity.

Jeff McCutcheon, with Ohio State Extension, will talk about extending both ends of the grazing season and improving grazing management. Russell Wilson a local grazier from Forest County will explain how he evaluates and employs cover crops in standing corn in his winter forage ration. Other presentations will highlight stocker cattle management and marketing.

A full house is expected so early registration is encouraged. The cost is $30 per person and includes a hot buffet lunch.
