Potter County Artisan Center Planned; Meeting Jan. 29

Potter County Artisan Center Planned; Meeting Jan. 29

pennyorkA Potter County Artisan Center is being established in Coudersport. A joint project of the Potter County Visitors Association and the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce, the center will be located in the Penn-York Building on North Main Street in those agencies’ joint office, formerly the Potter County Education Council. Plans call for a retail space to be established to showcase area artisans and allow them to sell their works.

A similar center was established by the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce in Emporium and is now a key feature of that town’s business district. An organization meeting for the Potter County Artisan Center will be held at 6 pm Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Penn-York Building. Those planning to attend or seeking more information should call 814-274-3365.

What ever happened to the Potter County Arts Council?

Last I heard the Arts Council paid a consultant to tell them what they already knew and that drained their treasury and the consultant smiled all the way to the bank while the Arts Council went bankrupt.

Ha. Kind of like the Austin Dam and next up the Coudersport downtown project. Definition of consultant: "Someone who tells you what you already know and gets paid for it." Don't we ever learn?

Maybe we learn. Has anybody told the borough council or commissioners or Chamber of Business how they feel about this? There should be some kind of public process to be heard on wasting more money on a consultant. I am willing to speak up but who do I speak to? Lots of times these things are done deals before anyone finds out about it.

To the poster of Jan 16 6:44.
To express your opinion, please come to a meeting in the front room of Gunzburger building, Jan 24 at noon.

Will that meeting of Jan. 24 be the cheerleaders or the decision makers? I want to know what public organization will be taking a vote on spending money for a consultant and would attend that business meeting. When will that vote be taken?

If it's like anything in Austin it will be behind closed doors! That's what it was when they decided to spend over 100,000 thousand dollars for someone to tell is we needed over 3 million to make it work!

I keep reading on here that this Main Street group is going to hire a consultant but is that a fact or a rumor? If there is public money involved then I think the Boro Council will have to vote on it so find out when the meeting is going to be held and show up to speak out. Call the borough office 274-9776.
