Potter County Snowmobile Association reviving the God's Country Challenge Sled Dog Race

The Potter County Snowmobile Association is reviving the God's Country Challenge Sled Dog Race last held in 1984.

After two winters with undependable snow mushers and skijorers are anxious for the chance to run on the snow with their dogs. Race registrations have been received from PA, NY, MD, and VA. As of today, Jan 3, the conditions look good for the race. In the six dog and four dog events there will be an Open Class which will attract dog teams with Alaskan Huskies which are the type of dogs which predominate in races such as the Iditarod and there will be a Purebred Class which will attract Siberian Husky dog teams. Many of the Siberian Husky teams are made up of working dogs who also are show dogs in the warmer months.

The Potter County Snowmobile Club is hosting two events this month. The God's Country Challenge Sled Dog Race on January 11 & 12 and the Potter County Vintage Snow Fest, January 17 - 19.

The Sled Dog Race will start and finish at the Potter County Snowmobile Club House, 949 North Hollow Road, Coudersport. The Start Time will be 9 AM both days. Hot food and hot beverages and a place to warm up will be available at the club house. Dress for the winter conditions and please leave your pets at home. For more information please contact Lydia Storey 814-274-0814.
