Corbett bullies Delaware River Basin Commission with funding cut

Corbett bullies Delaware River Basin Commission with funding cut

$500,000 cut is retaliation for gas drilling moratorium

Harrisburg – John Hanger said today that the General Assembly must not allow Governor Corbett to bully the Delaware River Basin Commission with a $500,000 budget cut, more than half of Pennsylvania’s allocation.

“This retaliatory budget cut would make Governor Christie proud, but bully politics should have no place in Pennsylvania,” said Hanger. “This cut is naked retaliation for the DRBC’s continuing moratorium on gas drilling in the Delaware watershed. This extreme, more than 50 percent cut will undermine DRBC’s ability to protect public safety and the environment of the communities in the watershed.”

Last July, Hanger sent a letter to the DRBC commissioners urging them to keep the drilling moratorium in place. He has also called for continuing the moratorium on new gas drilling in state forests and a ban on drilling in state parks that the Corbett administration wants to end. Hanger, along with former Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary John Quigley, wrote the state forest moratorium that was implemented by Governor Rendell by executive order in 2010.

“This once again tells us that Corbett is willing to trade anything, including public safety and clean water in pursuit of his “Drill Baby Drill” agenda that so pleases his gas driller campaign donors,” said Hanger. “The General Assembly must not allow the governor to bully the DRBC and must restore the funding in the budget it passes this summer.”

Thank you Mr. Hanger, for standing up and calling out the corruption that is rampant in the Corbett administration. This well I'll show them power trip of the governor, has know place in politics. He must have learned nothing from the Christie debacle. He needs to get out of office and start his new multi-million dollar per year gas lobbyist job, asap.
