Seven Arrested in Stolen Gun Investigation

Seven Arrested in Stolen Gun Investigation

As a result of a lengthy investigation into a burglary that occurred in the Town of Alma in September of 2013, NYSP BCI in Amity arrested Jamie S. Clark age 26 of Wellsville, NY, Sara Morse age 18 of Andover, NY, and Bryent Scotchmer age 19 of Wellsville, NY. 

All three were charged with Burglary in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th and 5th degrees. The subjects entered a residence and stole 7 long guns and various electronics. Scotchmer was arraigned in the Town of Friendship Court and was remanded to the Allegany County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. Clark and Morse were released to re-appear in Town of Alma Court on 2/19/14.

Clark was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th. He was found to be in possession of a shotgun on 12/2/13 when he was precluded by law from owning a firearm due to being convicted of a serious offense. He was processed and directed to appear in Wellsville Town Court on 3/11/14.

Also arrested in connection with this investigation was Casey J. Reynolds age 25 of Wellsville, NY. He was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th degree in the Town of Bolivar. He possessed a stolen shotgun and sold that gun to a third party. He was processed and released to appear in Town of Bolivar Court on 2/25/14.

Russell Irvin age 38 of Alma, NY, was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Stolen Property in the 4th degree as he was found to be in possession of the stolen gun that Reynolds had possessed. The stolen gun was also found to have a defaced serial number. Irvin was also in possession of another gun which he was unable to legally possess because he is a convicted felon. He was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree. He was processed and directed to appear in Town of Bolivar Court on 2/25/14.

Steven Mitchell age 18 of Wellsville, NY, was arrested in connection with this investigation. He was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th for possessing a stolen gun. He was processed and released to appear in Town of Wellsville Court on 2/5/14.

Todd M. Lewis age 28 of Great Valley, NY, was arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th and 5th degrees and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th. He was found to be in possession of two stolen guns and stolen electronics. He was processed and released to appear in Town of Scio Court on 2/25/14.

This burglary investigation spanned both Allegany and Cattaraugus Counties and resulted in criminal charges in three different jurisdictions. All of the stolen guns were recovered (all seven) as well a two additional guns that were from other crimes. A portion of the stolen electronics were recovered as well. The overall estimated value of all the stolen property is approx. $3,000.

Why was Scotchmer sent to jail when the other 2 weren't?
