Think About It

Guilt and Shame

Two of the greatest debilitating and controlling emotions are guilt and shame. These two items are often the root causes of unhappiness, depression and misery. They often are associated with dread, fear, anxiety, hopelessness, and a long list of other such controlling emotions.

Guilt is often related to feelings of remorse, and responsibility, while shame deals with disgrace and embarrassment. Shame often relates to the entire person and is accompanied by a feeling of worthlessness. It is also related to deep embarrassment. When coupled together, guilt and shame, have great power to bring down even the strongest of people.

Guilt and shame are not necessarily bad emotions. In fact they can actually lead to great change. However, with many, it controls every part of their life in a negative way. Ironically, those that feel guilt and shame are often not the guilty party but rather made to feel that they are the guilty party.

People can be controlled with guilt and shame by the words of others. Parents can do this by their words. In an effort to get them to do something, they attempt to shame them into action. Victims of abuse will often carry guilt and shame, not because they’ve done anything wrong, but because somehow they’ve been made to feel that they were the fault of the abuse.

Dealing with guilt and shame can be difficult as in many cases it is so ingrained in the core of the person. It’s also important to remember that guilt and shame, real or imagined, has to be dealt with. Personally, I believe that you deal with it through a relationship with God. Isaiah 1:18 states, “Come now, let’s settle this,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson,
I will make them as white as wool.” It’s a good starting point. Think about it.

I say a good dose of this is needed in our Capitol within the ranks of Senates and Congress men. Also the White house for the President and Joe Bidden. They have all tried to destroy the work that should be available to all Americas during this administration.
