Crash Victim Worked At Bradford Regional Medical Center

Crash Victim Worked At
Bradford Regional Medical Center

The woman who was killed in the tragic accident at 6:15 this morning at the NY/PA line on Route 446 was a Patient Accounts Representative at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Lindsay M. Schmit, 26, whose address was listed on the police report as Grand Island, NY, started work at BRMC on January 6th as a medical biller/coder. She died at the scene of the crash after her Chevrolet Malibu slid into an oncoming tractor trailer that struck her car broadside.

Traveling with her were her fiance', Christopher Johnston, 23, (not Johnson as on the police report) and her approximately 3 to 4 year old son. Johnston and the boy suffered critical injuries in the crash and were first taken by ambulance to Olean General Hospital and subsequently flown to Buffalo Area hospitals.

The toddler was found ejected into a snowbank nearly two hours after the crash and expedited to Olean General Hospital by ambulance assisted by Olean 10 paramedic who met them enroute. Olean Police controlled the major intersections as the ambulance rushed the boy to the hospital.

Schmit and Johnston had planned an October 2014 wedding according to her Facebook page.

The driver of the tractor trailer (reported elsewhere to be an Olean Wholesale truck), Kevin David Padlo, 53, of Olean, NY, told police he was not injured.

Both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash. Troopers from Troop C and Troop F reconstructed the crash and the investigation is continuing. The roadway was closed for about 10 hours on Thursday, reopening at about 4:30 PM according to the State Police news release.

Eldred Township Fire Department, Eldred Boro EMS, Portville Fire Dept.& EMS, Olean 10 and Medic 1 from Bradford worked the crash scene as well as providing traffic control for the closure.

A Facebook Prayer Page has been set up for the accident victims with some updates on the survivors. You can access it here:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/212497042282679/

Prayers to all parties involved, the families, the Ems, first responders, police, and truck driver! The driver although not injured, and not his fault will have a lifetime to live with the memory of what happened.

Just an fyi. The baby will turn 3 in May and he was in a carseat. He was ejected IN the carseat. Lindsay was a sweet young woman from a wonderful family. We are all very sad. We are now praying for Christopher and Carter to recover.

Carter was buckled in his seatbelt, despite that person's comment insinuating otherwise.
