House Passes Measures to Hold Executive Branch Accountable for Enforcing the Law, Restore Constitutional Checks & Balances

House Passes Measures to Hold Executive Branch Accountable for Enforcing the Law, Restore Constitutional Checks & Balances
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn 'GT' Thompson, PA-5, today delivered remarks on H.R. 3973, the Faithful Execution of the Law Act, which passed Thursday by a vote of 244 to 171, and H.R. 4138, the ENFORCE the Law Act, which passed Wednesday by a vote of 233 to 181.

“From the refusal to enforce existing immigration laws to the numerous rewrites of the health care law, the Obama Administration has selectively enforced our laws and in many cases acted unilaterally to change or alter them – all without congressional approval. We must restore our constitutional system of checks and balances which was designed to not only limit abuses of power, but also promote collaboration and consensus building among co-equal branches. The House this week acted on two measures that will hold the executive branch accountable, restore balance to the separation of powers, and ensure that our laws are faithfully executed."

H.R. 3973, the Faithful Execution of the Law Act: The bill amends federal law to require the Attorney General to report to Congress any time a federal official establishes or implements a formal or informal policy to refrain from enforcing any provisions of federal law.

H.R. 4138, the ENFORCE the Law Act: The bill establishes a procedure for the House of Representatives or the Senate to authorize a lawsuit against the executive branch for failing to faithfully execute the laws.

Conservatives are funny.

(obama allows extensions)

The smoke screen isn't working anymore Glenn. Better just stick to eating pancakes (why bother with this stuff anyways? It's not like you could do anything to make people NOT vote for you in this backwards woods)

It's become plain to anyone with eyes that Republicans have ZERO plans for this nation beyond tax cuts for the insanely rich and stripping away laws and regulations that protect workers and communities.

This is a meaningless bill from a legislature that exists to pander to it's campaign contributors.

Yelling about Obama is literally all the Republicans have left,

so they'll do it whether it makes any sense or not. They'll scream it from the mountain tops. And hopefully, you the gullible voter won't notice they've done NOTHING for you.

9:26 i'm sure you have signed up for obama care right? Or are you one of the typical liberals with the old (you have to but i don't)! Any democrat or liberal that hasn't signed up for obama care is nothing more than a blow hard hypocrite!

The only question is, How could anyone vote against a bill that requires the president to enforce the laws congress enacts? He took an oath twice to uphold the constitution but he has done as he pleases and run roughshod over it.

Both of these laws are bogus.
Can you imagine the fallout if the house or senate was allowed to sue the executive branch? That is probably unconstitutional due to the separation of powers, but don't let the constitution interfere with the GOP interpreting it however THEY see fit.
And HR 3973 would be a colossal boondoggle. It would be completely unenforceable and cumbersome.
Obama has done some weird things, but he has used executive orders LESS than his predecessors.
All the GOP and their media outlets have done is go after everything he says and does from the very beginning. They are a bunch of sore losers, hypocritical morons, and legislative degenerates with nothing much more to do than criticize and, of course, rake in campaign money.
And no I'm not a democrat, or as some nutjob calls them here so often- a demorat. I'm independent, patriotic, and am so sick of the GOP I can't take anything they say seriously any longer. We need more political parties; the two we have are jokes and spend most of their time going after each other instead of tending to the nation's business.

934 what are you talking about?

You aren't making any sense.

What does that have to do with anything?

Unfortunately, Republicans don't seem to understand that Democrats are the only thing standing between Republicans and the safety net of social security, medicare, unemployment compensation and services for the poor. Once Republicans get their majority and all these programs are cut to the bone or gone entirely, ask yourselves what are you going to live on? Wake up people and start voting in your best interest.

You blame republicans 5:13 but ignore Obama gutting programs to fund obama care!

@9:36 HAHA You still think Obamacare is a product. If you have health insurance through your employer than you have health insurance that has to comply with ACA. If you bought healthcare but not on government exchanges, you still have insurance that complies with ACA. If you have Medicaid or Medicare you have socialized health insurance. If you don't have health insurance you are a leach on the system that expects to be automatically treated in the ER if something goes wrong.

You obama lovin idiots might like to be told what to purchase but i would like to make my own decisions and not have to pay for the free-bees that they hand out ! I don't need birth control or maternity insurance and i don't want to pay for yours! Obama care is creating leaches not preventing them. 9:02 , 9:09 you have obama care or are you just an armchair preacher for your messiah.

@6:46. Please education yourself on what insurance is. It is pooling cost together so you might have to pay from something that you don't need while somebody else will pay from something you need and they don't. Lets say you have a disease that is attributed to a certain gene. The treatment is so expensive that you can't afford it. Do you want to be a insurance group with only people with that gene? Of course you don't, because there would be no benefit of that insurance because you all have the same cost. You need people who don't have the gene to help pay for your treatment and in exchange you might have to pay for coverage on some other disease that your will probably not get.
