William James Abbott, 85, of Bradford, PA

William James Abbott, 85, of Bradford, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

He was born on July 30, 1928 in Bradford, a son of Thomas and Anna Russell Abbott.

On November 15, 1967 in Allegany, NY, he married Marcia Powell who survives.

Mr. Abbott graduated from Bradford High School, class of 1946, and received a B.S. in Chemistry from St. Bonaventure University in 1950. In 1974 he completed the Executive Marketing Management curricula at the University of Western Ontario.

US Air Force Vet

He enlisted in the Air Force in August 1950 and graduated from the Army Russian Language School, Monterey, California. He was commissioned 2nd Lt. upon completion of the U.S. Air Force Flight School, Waco, Texas and was discharged as 1st Lt. in 1955.

Mr. Abbott joined Kendall Refining Co. as a Research chemist in 1956 and was located in Dallas, Texas for many years as General Manager of the Witco Amalie Division. He retired in 1987.

While in Dallas, he was a director of Eastern Hills Country Club and chairman of the Chimney Lane Patio Homes Architectural Committee.

He was a member of St. Bernard Church and a former member of the Pennhills Club, the Bradford Club, Pine Acres Country Club and the McKean County Historical Society. He enjoyed golf and won many tournaments in Texas and Bradford.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas W. Abbott of Bradford, two grandchildren, Katie Johnson and Casey Abbott, three great grandchildren and a brother, Gerald Abbott of Warren.

Per his wishes there will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard Church at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2014 with the Rev. Raymond Gramata as celebrant.

Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
