Are you a first-time or renewal applicant enrolled in a college, university, or a college transfer program at a two-year public or junior college? Do you need financial aid to help pay for your education?
With the rising price tags on colleges and universities, it’s easy to believe that higher education is impossible to attain. Fortunately, it is not only possible to get a college degree, but it can be affordable too!
The deadline for filing an application for a state grant from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Authority (PHEAA) is Thursday, May 1st. This funding is available to Pennsylvania residents who qualify.

Please note that you must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for a state grant application. Both can be accessed at the PHEAA website.

The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for many types of need-based financial aid, including the Pennsylvania State Grant, federal Pell Grant, low-cost student loans, as well as other scholarships and institution-based awards.  You must fill out the FAFSA every year (including the year you are applying to colleges) to receive financial aid from your college or university. You must complete the free online application.
First-time grant applicants must also submit a Pennsylvania State Grant Form. Those who complete the FAFSA online will be redirected to the State Grant Form. Those who are first-time applicants and who have submitted their FAFSA, but not their State Grant Form, should visit to complete the process.
If constituents have questions about FAFSA or the State Grant Program and students or their families need to speak to a PHEAA representative, they can call 1-800-692-7392.

  • Prepare
    Before you apply for a Pennsylvania State Grant, find out whether you meet the eligibility requirements and how much money you can expect to receive.

  • FAFSAApply/Renew
    To be considered for a Pennsylvania State Grant, you must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and complete the Pennsylvania State Grant Form. Most renewal students do not have to complete the State Grant Form.

  • After You Apply/Renew
    Sign in to your Account Access mailbox to view your Pennsylvania State Grant status or to make changes to your school and/or program information. If you are a renewal applicant, make sure your information is up to date.

  • Pennsylvania Summer State Grant Program
    The Summer State Grant Program allows eligible students attending summer courses to apply for a Pennsylvania State Grant award for the summer term. The deadline is August 15.
