The PA Fish & Boat Commission is offering an eight hour Basic Boating Course

Basic Boating Course

The PA Fish & Boat Commission is offering an eight hour Basic Boating Course for area residents. The course is set for May 6th & 8th, 2014 from 5-9 pm at the Mount Jewett Sportsmen's Club, Division Street, Mount Jewett, PA.

The eight hour Course gives participants a chance to learn basic boating and safety information in a shorter program than those offered traditionally. Topics covered in this course include federal and state boating legal requirements, hull types, propulsion, navigation rules, alcohol impairment, hypothermia, small open boat operation, capsizing, boating accidents, nighttime operation, environmental conditions and trailering. A basic understanding of these principals is necessary for all boaters.

Those who successfully complete the course will receive a Boating Safety Certificate from the Commission. This course will meet the mandatory education requirements for all personal watercraft operators and for those individuals who are required to have a certificate to operate boats equipped with 25 horsepower engines and larger. This certificate is also recognized and accepted by other states with universal mandatory education requirements.

There is NO charge for the course and handout materials. The course is being sponsored by the Mount Jewett Sportsmen's Club and the PA Fish & Boat Commission. A free, light dinner will be provided (compliments of the Club) for all attendees.

Pre registration is required. Please contact Ms. Amidea Daniel of the Commission at (814) 359-5127 to register. You MUST attend both sessions to successfully complete the course requirements.
