Think About It

Life Will Be Better When…

How many times have we said something like that? We long for those events in our life when things will somehow magically get better. Wishful thinking can start early. For some, life will get better when they start school, others when they get into high school, when they can drive or get a car, get married and start a life on their own. You get the idea don’t you? Life will get better when something else happens. But, it doesn’t does it? Sometimes instead of getting better it gets worse. The anticipation and excitement that we think awaits us soon turns into a big disappointment. Rather than finding something that fulfills us and makes life complete, we’re just as unhappy as before.

I don’t believe that anyone has never wished for something that would somehow make life better. Looking back over my own life I can see many times when I was looking forward with great anticipation to something that I thought would bring great joy and happiness only to find that it too required work and effort. In reality, the things that we believe will bring great joy and excitement also carry with it responsibility on our end. Maybe it’s a relationship that we believe is going to complete us. But we soon find that every relationship requires my investment to be successful. It just doesn’t happen on its own. Remember the job that was going to give you freedom? Soon Monday’s looked dreadful and you wished you were back in school. Friday’s and the weekend became the highlights of your week. What you once looked forward to becomes a chore.

So if we all are looking forward to that thing which will make our lives better, why is it so elusive? Is it possible that we are looking in the wrong places and at the wrong things? A violin is just a violin until it’s picked up and played by the master. In other words, a violin has a song within it that makes beautiful music, but it won’t be found until someone who knows how to produce the music picks it up. You and I are created to produce beautiful music but we won’t produce it until we are being used for the purpose that we were created for. Then life will be better. Think about it.

Thank you for this think about it! I find myself looking forward to a lot of things. Most I think will bring more happiness, never being happy in the moment I'm in now. It doesn't help that the things I look forward to the most, never seem to come to fruition. I guess that's what dreams are made of, and it never hurts to dream does it?
