Box culvert work on Route 949 in Elk County to bring detour Work scheduled for week of June 2

Box culvert work on Route 949 in Elk County to bring detour Work scheduled for week of 6-2

Ridgway – Work to set a box culvert in Elk County will require a closure on State Route 949, June 2 through 7. Crews will be working to replace a large pipe with a box culvert in Ridgway Township, about two miles east of the village of Portland Mills. Route 949 will be closed in the immediate area and a lengthy detour will be in place.

PennDOT‘s official detour will direct drivers to use Route 219 into Jefferson County. Drivers will remain in Jefferson County and use Routes 28, 322, and 36 before returning to Route 949 in the village of Sigel. From Sigel, Route 949 brings drivers back into Elk County. Motorists familiar with the area may choose alternate routes.

PennDOT Elk County Maintenance is in charge of the project. If work progress allows, PennDOT will re-open the roadway before Saturday, June 7. All work is weather dependent.

Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs, and always buckle up.
