Conservation District Recognizes Stan Hess

Conservation District Recognizes Stan Hess

During the “Wild” Envirothon, the McKean County Conservation District recognized Stan Hess for his many years of dedication to Conservation Education in McKean County.

For over 36 years as a Service Forester for the DCNR, Bureau of Forestry, Stan has been instrumental in the implementation of several environmental educational programs for adults and students in McKean County.

Kerry Fetter, Conservation District Chairman,
recognizing Stan Hess for his valued service.
According to Kerry Fetter, Chairman of the McKean County Conservation District, “The Envirothon program in McKean County celebrated its 25th year and Stan was right there at its inception.” Eight years ago when the Conservation District began the “My Growing Tree” program, once again Stan was there eager to educate McKean County youth on the important role trees play in our lives.

Heather McKean, Conservation District Watershed Conservationist said, “I admire Stan’s passion and enthusiasm for environmental education. I feel very fortunate to be able to collaborate with him on such programs.”

Stan has served as a valuable resource to assist the District in working with forest landowners and advising the district on the implementation of proper erosion and sedimentation practices in our forests. This has played an important role in the lives of landowners, foresters, loggers and contractors. As an instructor of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Stan has given numerous presentations on the implementation of proper best management practices. One of Stan’s favorite accomplishments was the development of the largest forest landowners group – NorthCentral Forest Landowners Association formed in 1998.

Stan’s contributions over the years have not only furthered the goals and accomplishments of the District but will have a lasting effect and benefit to the citizens of McKean County.
