Call off!

This teacher surely needs an intervention and soon. How sad that she would embarrass not only herself and the students, but her family. Hopefully she will get the help she needs.

I cannot believe that the school did not address it as an internal issue with her and get her under the employee assistance program vs telling the world and arresting her. She should have known better but the school had other avenues!!

There is more to this story than what you are reading here, but it won't be made public.

Brilliant. Yeah Makes me so want to send my kid to school NOT! Drunk and in contact with students. I don't care if teachers are human too and make mistakes. They should be held to a higher standard. And I really hope she lost her job. On top of the charges.

Was she intoxicated or drugged?

She wss drunk and my child had a class with her that day and she said she was acting weard and it scared her how she was act

If they can have ZERO TOLORANCE for kids, they can for teachers.

… and people act like she just made a mistake. This is larger than a mistake. She needs to get herself well. She obviously has a problem.

Wow what a bunch of hypocrites! How many of you have ever been drunk in your home around your kids or their friends? How many of you made a poor decision and paid the price? I know this woman and her husband. I know they are great people. They volunteer at the Erie Zoo, they have taken in foster kids, and she has always made special cakes for the school activities. This should have been dealt with like this: Tell the school tax payers of the situation and have a special meeting and the community of Otto-Eldred should of had a voice in this matter. This is the same woman that got very sick at that school when they fixed it, and added on. What kills me about this is, We have teachers over here that smoke weed, and cigarettes in their cars at the school. Teachers only need to take 1 drug test before they get hired and then they cannot be tested again it is the law look it up. I have seen it for myself. Oh don't forget about the Driver's Ed teacher who had 4 dui and still taught Driver's training behind the wheel. He is gone now and we don't teach this at good old O-E now, sad for the kids who need it, Or how about the football coaches that liked to take the team up KB for a winning football game. Yes beer was included, and the teacher who gets mad and throws chairs out the window, or what about the one who should be teaching history and only talks about sports the entire class. How about the teacher that likes to pull hair if someone falls asleep in his class. Or the administration that has family members and they get special treatment. Here is the best one yet. If you are a teachers kid at this school you are going to be picked for everything you try out for rather you are good or not. Joe dirt may be better than that teachers kid, but sorry son you did not have the right last name. My point is look at your school closely. See for yourself at all the hidden little secrets. ALL THE COVER UPS! She made a mistake! I have been apart of this school district for well over 40 years and let me just say some things will never change. I just hate the fact we the community did not have a voice in this matter. You fired this teacher for this, what next? She made a mistake get her help don't take away her teaching credentials. No one will hire her now, because of the clearance checks, she can not even help out more foster kids because of this incident. OE ruined her life twice now. First the sickness and now this. To all OE parents this is wrong on so many levels. From her drinking and driving to the school and being drunk around kids, to the way it all went down. Trying to hide this at first to her being fired. SHAME on the School district and the School board. We the parents need to be heard. I think you would be surprised at the support this woman and her husband has. I want to wish them both good luck and to let them know at least One parent at OE gets it. Such a sad and shameful situation for the entire school, and a great loss of a good teacher who has made a bad judgement call.

I truly hope that all of the parents claiming that teachers need to be held to a higher standard think the same thing for themselves! If you would have a few drinks at home with your children present and only consider it a mistake I hope you use that same judgement call with other adults, or you're only teaching your children double standards and hypocrisy.

My children go to this school. I am so proud to know that the administration has my children's safety as their top priority. I'm sure this situation was shocking and extremely disappointing and difficult to deal with. There may be more to the story that will never be made public, but regardless if she was drugged or drunk by her own doing the school acted very appropriately and did what they had to do in THAT moment. As a parent, it made me feel secure about sending my child to school. I don't think the school had other avenues, I think the teacher had other avenues like calling in. Otto-Eldred school administration, thank you for doing what was necessary to keep my children safe.

Until we start paying teachers more! Things like this will be the norm I'm afraid. They go to college for four years and get a degree. Just to get out and get an entry level teaching position for fifty or sixty thousand a year. Peanuts I tell you! Not nearly enough money, considering all the responsibility and college loans they have to pay back.

Drug tests should be required for all teachers.

Anonymous said...

If all teachers should be drug tested then logically all parents should be too.

This outrages me one she shouldn't have been drunk while working and now you have people saying shouldn't have lost her job over it and she was a foster parent goes to show what kind of homes cys will place a child into they take these kids from their parents for being abusers, drug and alcohol users and then place them in a home where the foster parent is drunk as for the person who made the comments about how you have to be a teachers kid to get picked for sports or what not, that line ain't flying with me because I have had family and friends kids play sports at the school and guess what they aren't teachers kids.

Wow 528 you obviously must be from an upstanding community where everyone is perfect. Yes, she made an awful mistake, but for you to bring in her being a foster parent? It sounds like you have an ax to grind with CYS. Obviously you don't know her or her family. Like someone else said, her and her husband have done a lot for the OR community and beyond. How about some compassion? Yes, she made a mistake but haven't we all? Get her the help she needs because there are most likely other issues at play here. To the poster who whined about the teacher's pay? Well what do you expect for A PART TIME JOB? Look at the ACTUAL hours WORKED vs the private sector. (183 days x 7? Actual Working hrs) Yeah yeah it's stressful. Sure. All jobs are important and stressful and demanding and all of the other descriptive adjectives the union uses to justify this pay for a part time job. Ask anyone about their own job. What will they say? "Nope, my job has no importance". Nope, I'm overpaid. The only reason so much is heard about teachers jobs is from a strong vocal union that continues to protect subpar teachers. Not just at here at OE but throughout the country. To 6:58, As far as being a teacher's child? My children went through OE and they all did well in academics, sports, band, music, school plays etc. They are not the children of a teacher nor related to but they did work hard and still do. As in anything, school, sports your job, work hard and you will be recognized and rewarded. Instead of passing on the excuses attitude to your children, become involved in their lives and teach them the benefits of hard work. Instead of complaining and making excuses why they didn't get picked for something, show them where they went wrong and how to succeed next time and how to improve. If your child(ren) work hard, they will be recognized by teachers and they will succeed in not just this school but any academic setting. To those bashing this district, look at the stats of OE as far as college or job careers after HS. Overall, The work ethics of OE grads are second to no other school districts in this area. To the OE school board, if there is some latitude, please recognize her long career and contributions she has shown in that career. The real point here is : Don't ruin a career over ONE (1) mistake. Get her the help she needs and show that good can come from a bad situation and that second chances, when merited, do work.
