I had some great memories in the Grand Theatre building. I had my first job there taking tickets for 50 cents a night. I finally moved up the corporate ladder to selling popcorn (10 cents a box)and candy for $1.00 a night. The fringe benefits were that I got to watch the movies and eat popcorn. My dad ran the projector part time on weekends. Sad to see the bricks come down and the stores disappear in Port.

Oh come on this is stupid!! I'm done with old Porty a Potty!! This town is nothing but ghetto eyesores, glad I'm moving out onto a town that appricates it's history and looks like a actual town!! No butler house, canoe place, sartwell, actual old town charm. Goodbye Porty A Potty Good Riddance, it was good while it lasted!

RIP CANOE PLACE!!!

I'm moving my family out also! Nothing for young people in town but to get in trouble. I'm heading out to the gas rush in North Dakota! They can't find enough workers out there. Beautiful little town with a theatre and skating rink. Has a kids fun center with laser tag, paintball and the works. Goodbye Port A.

Why don't you complainers get off your butts and do something about there being "nothing for young people in town but to get in trouble"?! Invest in the town, build or run these places that you are speaking of in other places and maybe the town could be something again! But, I guess you are right, it's just easier to run away and keep complaining than to do something about it. Good riddance to YOU then! This town doesn't need people like you.

Isn't the building falling apart?

What is the town supposed to do?
Force the owner to upgrade it?
Buy it and raise your taxes to salvage it?

Raise your kids properly they won't be in trouble... Do your job as a parent instead of thinking the community is responsible for raising them... Life/Town is what you make it...

Complaining? Nope stating the facts, comments like yours are reason why people are leaving in droves, while the way Porty A Potty is set up invites unwanted people to move in. Thus rapidly declining the town. Me I'm been working hard after calls to help their town, me I bought 5 properties already, plan to bring Tourism to stimulate the economy to their town. What a joke infighting in the historical society, tearing down anything attractive in town, now this town is creepy with unwanted people just wandering around. Why would I want that for my business? Pretty soon those existing business will see that and leave such as rumored one of the Glass Plant then boom town is dead! I don't see rite aid staying after dollar general. That's why Coudersport/Smethport has rules for buildings in town thus boom beautiful town. Porty, nope just leaches till building falls apart except some who tried for years are now retiring but good riddance to you! How dare you say I haven't tried, I did till I realized people basically don't care in this town, why waste my efforts? The other town already appricates my efforts. The mayor race of Porty proves my point nobody cares enough to run and clean this town up. Wow what a joke! Coudersport/Smethport keeps on laughing while Porty goes backwards. I bet there will be a major crime in a few years, that's why I'm goneeeeee!!!

It is sad that the little towns around here seem to be all but fading into the sunset, but I agree with Post 1:48. It all stems from the home weather you have good or bad kids who get into trouble! And Coudy has a lot of empty stores! As does Smethport & Austin. What are you talking about Post 2:43? Emporium, the same. Stores and other businesses are closing monthly! Very sad indeed!

You hit the nail on the head 2:43. I was in Port for a while it is defiantly a dying town. It basically only consist of cheap shops and Bars. Biggest problem of all is it consist mainly of unemployed single mothers of many living off the public till. Who are to busy walking around all day looking for baby Daddys and making more than looking for employment. This being said unfortunately the future of this town looks very bleak.
