Update for Route 255 Project in Saint Marys, Week of May 11

Update for Route 255 Project in Saint Marys, Week of May 11

Saint Marys – Work to improve a section of Route 255 in the city of Saint Marys is continuing. The project stretches from the Tractor Supply Co. intersection to Route 120/State Street in Saint Marys. Once the project completes in late summer 2014, travel along this section of Route 255 will be smoother and more efficient.

Activity the week of May 11 will include:

• The contractor will begin work on Sunday night at 7 p.m. and continue through Thursday night. Work will be performed 24-hours per day.
• Route 255 continues to be restricted to one lane northbound and one lane southbound between Random Road and Depot Street. This traffic pattern will remain in place 24-hours-per-day until further notice.
• During nighttime hours, the contractor will be excavating the existing southbound lanes in preparation for the construction of new pavement.
• The contractor will continue working at night, breaking up the existing southbound lanes in preparation for reconstruction of the pavement.
• During daytime work hours, the contractor will continue to install sanitary sewer lines along the west side of Route 255 south of Vine Street.
• During daytime work hours, the contractor will continue installation of storm drainage on the west side of Route 255 between Vine Street and Arch Street.
• During daytime work hours, the contractor will continue installation of a retaining wall at the intersection of Route 255 and Vine Street.
• West Arch Street will continue to be closed between South Saint Marys Street (Route 255) and Rock Street. Motorists are to follow the signed detour. This portion of West Arch Street will remain closed until further notice.

All work is weather and schedule dependent. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving and stopped vehicles through the entire work zone. Motorists are advised to be cautious when traveling through the work zone and to obey the posted speed limit.

Overall work includes pavement repair, drainage improvements, addition of a right-turn lane for Route 255 northbound traffic at Vine Street, re-alignment of the Arch Street intersection, a right turn lane on Route 120 east for traffic heading south on Route 255, and other construction items. Dave Gutelius Excavating Inc. of Mifflinburg is the contractor on this $12.8 million project.
