Calling all veterans for ‘Patriot Weekend

Calling all veterans for ‘Patriot Weekend

COUDERSPORT -- Potter County Veterans Affairs Director Will Worthington is encouraging veterans and active-duty military service members to turn out for a special event in their honor at the county seat on Saturday, July 5.

As part of the second annual Patriot Weekend, Coudersport Rotary Club is sponsoring a parade that steps off at noon and progresses down Main Street, from the courthouse square (Third Street) and across the World War II Veterans Memorial Bridge to Allegany Avenue.

“The organizers are asking that veterans and active-duty military personnel march or ride -- in uniform if possible -- to celebrate Independence Day,” Worthington said. “This is a great chance for those of us who are enjoying the blessings of living in a free America to turn out and say thank you by waving flags and applauding our veterans as they pass by on Main Street.”

Patriot Weekend is set for Friday and Saturday, July 4-5, based at the courthouse square. Proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior organization and Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention. Highlights include live music, games, vendors, educational displays, a barbecue cook-off, and the veterans’ tribute parade, which will also feature classic cars.

A motorcycle run to support suicide prevention programs, led by the American Eagles Motorcycle Club, will follow the parade.

Dickinson Center will distribute information on the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as services of the Bath (N.Y.) VA Medical Center.

“We appreciate Dickinson’s support of our military veterans,” Worthington said. “The Wounded Warrior organization has touched many lives over the years and I can’t say enough about the great relationship that Potter County has developed with the VA Medical Center at Bath. We’re so fortunate to have our own veterans medical clinic at Mapleview. The team at Bath is committed to expanding those services so our local veterans do not have to travel to Bath or another VA medical center for care.”

More information on the veterans tribute parade is available at 814-558-6789.

So pleased to see this. Hope to see a big crowd on the Main Street for this parade. As far as the clinic at Maple View that has been an excellent addition for our veterans. My father and my husband both had to travel to Erie and the bills add up fast. Bath VA does a good job and those headlines or horror stories do not apply there. I think it is great that Potter County has partnered with Bath VA for a local clinic so thanks.
