Suicidal Male Prompts Large Police Response Near Friendship/Amity Line

At 1:11 PM on Saturday, New York State Police were summoned to a report of a suicidal male armed with a handgun who has gone into the woods at a location near the Friendship/Amity town line.

They are currently mobilizing personnel and equipment at a staging area near the intersection of County Routes 31 and 31 A and awaiting the arrival of a State Police helicopter to assist. The staging area is not the location of the incident, but in the general area.

Public, although curious due to the large police response, should avoid the area and let the police do their work without interference. Amity Ambulance has been requested to standby at the staging area.

At 2:38 PM, a Wellsville ambulance was dispatched to standby at Amity station. The male has returned to his residence and is now armed with long guns. 

At 5:45 PM--All agencies involved in were advised that the incident on Ackerman Hill Road has been resolved and the man is in custody. Radio silence has been lifted with units allowed to resume radio use.

On 6/14/14 at approximately 1:10pm, SP Amity patrols responded to a reported violent physical domestic on Ackerman Hill Road in the Town of Amity. It was reported the male subject, Reuben J. Stocking, fled into the woods and was armed.

Prior to the arrival of patrols, Stocking returned to the residence and refused to exit.

Negotiations were established with Stocking and after approximately 3 hours of negotiations, Stocking surrendered to State Police Special Operations Response Team members.

Stocking was taken into custody and the investigation is on going.
