Week-long bridge replacement starts July 7 in Elk County Detour will be in place

Week-long bridge replacement starts July 7 in Elk County Detour will be in place

Johnsonburg – A detour will begin Monday, July 7, as crews work to replace a bridge on Route 4003 (Tambine Road), northwest of Johnsonburg. When the bridge replacement is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove it from Elk County’s list of structurally deficient structures.

The replacement work requires closing the bridge, with a detour in place. PennDOT’s official detour uses Routes 4007 (Silver Creek Road/Main Street), 219 (Buffalo Pittsburgh Highway/Center Street), and 948 (Montmorenci Road). The closure and detour will be in effect until work is completed Saturday, July 12.

The bridge is known locally as the Johnsonburg Water Dam Bridge. It is located two miles north of Route 948 (Montmorenci Road). Originally built in 1908, the 23-foot bridge spans a branch of Silver Creek and carries an average of 566 vehicles each day.

Crews from PennDOT Elk County Maintenance will perform the replacement, with all work weather and schedule dependent. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs, and always buckle up.
