PA Fish & Boat Copmmission Quarterly Meeting Scheduled for July 14-15

Quarterly Meeting Scheduled for July 14-15

HARRISBURG, Pa. (July 3) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) will hold its quarterly business meeting on July 14-15 at its Harrisburg headquarters, located at 1601 Elmerton Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

As part of the Commission’s quarterly meeting, committees will meet beginning at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, July 14, and again at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15. Formal consideration of the agenda by the full Commission will begin at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15. All committee meetings and the formal meeting are open to the public.

Also, on Monday evening at 7 p.m., PFBC Executive Director John Arway will present the Ralph W. Abele Conservation Heritage Award to former Senator Franklin Kury to recognize Mr. Kury’s lasting conservation impact as the author and champion of Article I, Section 27 of the Pennsylvania Constitution, also known as the Environmental Rights Amendment.

“Arguably, this addition to the Pennsylvania Constitution stands as one of the most important pieces of environmental legislation ever passed in the state,” said Arway. “The incredible legacy of Article 1, Section 27, places Mr. Kury in a group of the most notable leaders in Pennsylvania’s rich conservation history.”

The evening session will feature a discussion on the significance of Article I, Section 27, and will be moderated by Pete Duncan, former Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources and former Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The session will also include a taped interview with Professor John Dernbach, Distinguished Professor of Law at Widener University and co-director of Widener’s Environmental Law Center.

The Abele Award is the highest recognition the PFBC provides to persons who distinguish themselves in the cause of conservation.

A complete copy of the meeting schedule and the full agenda for the meeting can be found on the PFBC’s web site at www.fishandboat.com/minutes.htm.
