Unfortunately, many, many more people spend millions of dollars on "losing" tickets. Most of the people who spend on these tickets are the ones who can least afford it. Lottery's are also known as the poor people's tax. You pay it and odds are: you won't receive anything directly from your payment. Save up your lottery money for a year and actually invest it in something other than a lottery crap shoot or worse yet, donate it at the Salamanca Casino. Odds are that you will NOT win money that is why casinos and the lottery rake in so much. If you have the gambling bug, play Bingo at the local VFD, then you are pretty well assured that the money will go towards equipment for the public good. If you truly have the urge to "donate" money, send it to a known charitable organization.

11:55. You are exactly right. The lottery is a tax on poor people. Quit buying lottery tickets for a year, save that money and invest in stocks. You will be SO much further ahead in the end.

Poster 4:48 PM - People are wising up. Look at all the big casinos in Atlantic City going out of business. Poster 11:55 AM is right. Donate that money to a worthy cause. If more people did, townships and towns where your taxes go to pay for their operating deficit, may not rise as fast.

Casinos and the lottery aren't the same.. casinos are for profit.. the lottery funds programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians.
