Austin Dam Show Returns August 22 - 23

Austin Dam Show Returns August 22 - 23

The Potter County Visitors Association (PCVA) welcomes live music and festival fans to the 2014 Dam Show, which will be held at the Austin Dam on August 22 - 23. The dam ruins and surrounding mountains create a fantastic natural amphitheater, and when the sun goes down, the dam ruins become a canvas for a colorful animated lightshow. It's a sight you won't see anywhere but the Austin Dam.

Gates open at noon on Friday. Campers can get their sites set up before music starts with the CJMG Band at 4 PM. Friday’s lineup features the highly popular music of The Blind Owl Band, out of Saranac Lake, NY, at the headlining 10 PM spot, as well as the “power twang” of The Woodshed Prophets at 8 PM, and the long-requested Backwoods Experiment, with a great bluegrass sound, beginning at 6 PM.

“Friday’s lineup should be a lot of fun,” said David Brooks, PCVA Executive Director. “You can expect to see some varying styles and some great bluegrass music. The bands will be playing their own sets, and also joining in a late night jam session hosted by The Backwoods Experiment beginning at midnight.”

Local favorite, Josh Wolf, kicks off Saturday’s lineup at noon. He’ll be followed by The New Daze. At 4 PM, the smooth sounding Mysterytrain will take the stage, followed by the Dam Show’s first international band, The Dinosaur Truckers, of Germany.

“We’re really excited to host The Dinosaur Truckers this year. Seeing these guys, all the way from Germany, could be a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Brooks. “They’re thrilled to be a part of the Dam Show, and they’ll even be bringing a film crew with them to work on a documentary of their first U.S. tour. It’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone.”

Following The Dinosaur Truckers, Willie Jack and the Northern Light will be taking the stage at 8 PM with a great groove rock sound.

“They’ve played at the show numerous times over the years and they’re always a fan favorite and a repeat request,” said Brooks. “We’re very happy to be able to bring them back this year.”
Philadelphia’s Swift Technique will headline Saturday night at 10 PM, bringing a little brass and funk to the show.

“As soon as we heard them, we knew they were the missing ingredient,” said Brooks. “They’ve got a big sound and an old-school funk influence with a unique, modern twist. We’re really excited for their first appearance at the Dam Show and we think folks will really enjoy them.”
Food vendors will be on site all weekend long serving up a variety of great meals, and craft vendors will demonstrate their skills and sell their items.

The quality of the music at the show is outstanding and the eclectic variety means there’s something for everyone. Come discover your new favorite band and enjoy camping, hiking, fishing and more at the Austin Dam. The Dam Show is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
