Clinton County: Bridge work and two-month detour start Aug. 25 near McElhatten

Clinton County
Bridge work and two-month detour start Aug. 25 near McElhatten

Lock Haven - Work to repair a Clinton County bridge will start Monday, Aug. 25 and will feature a two-month detour. The state-owned bridge spans the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, near McElhatten on Route 1005 (McElhatten Drive. Repairing the bridge will keep it in service for years to come and allow PennDOT to remove it from Clinton County’s structurally deficient list.

Since the work requires closing the bridge, a two-month detour will be in place. The detour uses Route 150 and Route 220. The closure and detour will be in effect until Oct. 25.

Originally built in 1971, the bridge is 1,224 feet long and carries an average of more than 3,700 vehicles each day. Work will include replacement of the bridge dams, deck repairs and sub-structure repairs.

The contractor for this $1.5 million job is Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College. All work is weather and schedule dependent.

Drivers are reminded to follow official detour signs, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
