Pleasant Street Festival: The Pleasant Street Festival will take place on Saturday, August 16th, from noon to 4:00 p.m. This year there will be:
• Live band from 12:00 to 4:00
• Chicken barbecue
• Hot dogs & Brats
• Walk-Around Tacos
• Chips
• Drinks
• Assorted vendors (theme baskets, crafts, home baked goods, lightly used books, VHS movies, etc.)
• Contests: ladder ball and pie judging
• Pet show
• Demonstrations: state police, computer Q&A, eReader Q&A, local fire department
• Face painting
• 95.7 “The Pig” will be broadcasting live during the festival.

Young Adult Graphic Novels: A new section is developing at the library in the young adult area. We are adding some graphic novels. What are graphic novels? A graphic novel is a book made up of comics content. We will be adding to the collection as funds allow.

Financial Peace University Classes: This life-changing class taught by Dave Ramsey and the FPU teaching team on video will help you achieve your financial goals by showing you how to eliminate debt, save for the future, and give like never before. You will be challenged and motivated to make a plan for your money and change your family tree forever. A free preview will take place Wednesday, August 20th, at 6:00 p.m.

Friday Flea Markets: Do you have a pile of items that you are not using? Could you use some extra cash? The Oswayo Valley Memorial Library can help turn those items into cash! Every Friday through the end of September, rent space on the library lawn and sell your extra items. Interested sellers may reserve a spot by stopping in the library OR calling 697-6691. The set-up fee is $5.00 per table every Friday. Sellers are responsible for their own tables. Space is limited. Have your lawn sale on the library lawn and turn your extra items into extra cash!

Book Discussion: The library’s book discussion group is reading Elizabeth Street by Laurie Fabiano. The group will meet for discussion on Wednesday, August 20th, at 1:30 p.m. We have plenty of copies available for anyone new who would like to join the group.

POWERLibrary: Scholastic BookFlix is a new online literacy resource for grades pre-K - 3 that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to help build a love of reading and learning. BookFlix reinforces core reading skills and introduces children to a world of knowledge and exploration. To access POWERLibrary visit our website at

POWER Library is an integral part of Information Literacy, a component of the PA Forward initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association, promoting the value of libraries in the 21st Century. Libraries help all Pennsylvanians learn how to use online resources and current technology to fully participate in a digital society. Ongoing Programming: The following ongoing monthly program events are open to everyone. For more information, call the library at 814-697-6691.
• Family History Research group & Researching the History of Education in the Oswayo Valley: 2nd Friday of the month, 2:00 p.m. (These groups are not meeting in August)
• Story Time with Pen: every Wednesday during the school year at 4 p.m.
• Stitch Together Knit and Crochet Group: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m.
• Book discussion: 3rd Wednesday of the month, 1-3:30 p.m.

Memorials: A memorial was received for Rosita Goodridge from Jacob & Betty Jane Colwell.

Audio & eBooks for Download: We also have eBooks and audio books that are available through our website that you can download onto your eReader and MP3 player. Go to our website and click on “Download Books”.

Website: You can see what events are happening at the library and search the card catalog by visiting our website at You can also log into your account and renew books you have out or put a book on reserve. You can see what new books are available by clicking on the “New on the Shelves” tab.

Board of Trustees Meeting: The Oswayo Valley Memorial Library’s board of directors’ monthly meeting will be held on August 25th at 6:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
