Lanny's posting in "Port Allegany Remember When" today gave rise to much speculation as to the future of food shopping in the Port Allegany area. Truth of the matter being that regular shoppers at the Port Allegany Shop 'n Save who have been served by this store for many years were not given much information as to the changes to be made. Ralph Ayers has owned the store for as long as I can remember and along with his long time employees, has offered a great shopping experience to the area. Many commentors have offered speculation. Best information I have seen is from comments by Martha Knight posted to the original posting on the Remember When site.
We would appreciate it if the person who is planning to reopen the store would contact us at shurfine40@gmail.com and give us some accurate information on the changes that are coming.

& the rest of the story is.....please
Are they remodeling, changing store names, or what?
Well, that clears things up
So sad. Guess it means havi g to go to Coudersport for groceries.
i thought they were remodeling and opening under yet another brand name? Would love to know more, too.
Yes they are remodeling and reopening.... there are new owners.... be patient....
new owners, same store! closed for a month to remodel, calm down everyonone! God bless Lanny but he needs to get his facts straight! this is from a relative of the manager, keep calm!!
I thought they were going to reopen in September, after they remodel - there are two sides to this story!
Please add some detail, because, you know, a few thousand people rely on this for food shopping and more than a few rely on this for their income.
Don't be like that man. Give some damn details.
the owner is retiring and sold it to the guy who owns saves a lot in bradford,pa..there remolding and reopening in september..people need to get used to changes and quit whinning..
People need to stop feeding into the rumors and believing everything they hear. I have it from 2 reliable sources it will re-open under the save-a-lot name. One source is someone that provided the store with something and will continue after the new store opens.
It has been sold. It will be closing for 2 weeks to remodel and then reopening as Shop & Save. This came directly from the previous owners.
That's what you get when people get orgasms over going to the big box stores to save a few pennies and screw the "mom & pop" stores.
I was told at the store they would be opening up again in early September
I work(ed) there. The current owner is retiring. Someone bought it and doing remodeling. It'll reopen in September as.... Shop N Save! I wish people would get their facts straight before running their mouths.
Same name
Remodeling and keeping name
Hopefully the era that is ending is a gloomy market with some rude employees where no one shopped.
This is certainly a loss to the community. For many years Ralph would donate to many school functions that Wal-mart would not even consider. Thank you Ralph.
I was told that they were putting a top in that building.
The store will reopen in Sept. under new management. The present employees will be without a job because the new owners want a nonunion store. No benefits and lower wages. This is the word on the street.
And the employees? Heard they are breaking the union?
To those that are adamant that it is re-opening as a Shop-n-Save, I hope you wake up some day. The sign will change and you won't have a clue where you are. Did you not read the comments that said it will become a SAVE-A-LOT?? Different company, different name.
i don't care what opens as long as people have jobs and our community needs to pull together to help the elderly and the ones that can not travel for whatever reasons to get their groceries. so that in mind carlsons in turtle point deliveries so if you know of someone that would benefit from this please let them know just call down with your order and they will deliver
Melanie said - It WILL NOT be a SAVE-A-LOT. Corporate has been ignoring ALL requests to do so. I personally would LOVE it to become one! I spoke with the area manager (he was from Galeton) about three weeks ago. I did wonder if many of us contacted SAVE-A-LOT, by sending an email, if they would possibly consider it?
The new owners cannot open it as a Save-A-Lot just yet, so for 11:15 you'll be royally surprised and biting your tongue when you see the current name put back on the building. It will be closing for 2 weeks for renovations, and then reopening under the same name! There are a lot of people in Port who already drive to Costa's in Smethport to buy their groceries.
Just call it Shop-a-lot and make everyone happy. HA
The new store will be a Spend-a-Lot or a Shop and Spend. ha
The Shop-n-Save in Coudersport is currently undergoing renovations including a reset of the store...many changes there & they are STILL OPEN under Stan Swank, Owner.
The Coudersport Shop & Save is where I purchase groceries for my family.
There is only 1 grocery store in our town. I prefer not to shop there. This is due to food quality and the lack of a clean store environment. The workers also could use some people skills. The owners seem to not care either ; which seems odd because they could have a really great business if they decided to make some changes. JMHO.
So I choose to get groceries in Coudersport because the store is better.
Aisles are getting pretty narrow at the Coudersport store. Wonder when he is going to start selling nuts & bolts?
