Rebecca “Becca” Gardner, PA-C, a native of Hornell, New York, will practice family medicine at Cole Memorial’s Port Allegany Community Health Center. Her previous employers include Cuba Memorial Hospital in Cuba, New York and Finger Lakes Health in Waterloo, New York where she was a Certified Nurses’ Aide.

Mandy Erway, PA-C, a Coudersport native, worked at MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in the general surgery and orthopedics areas after receiving a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition to holding a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh, Miss Erway serves with the Army Medical Department of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. She will also be located in the Hospitalist Department at Cole Memorial.

“These three excellent new team members will join our total of 17 Physician Assistants at Cole Memorial,” said Dr. Marlene Wust-Smith, Medical Director of Cole Memorial Medical Group. “We have the best quality medical staff in the area which includes highly-skilled physician assistants and nurse practitioners. It’s also nice to see a few familiar faces from our collaborative P.A. program with Lock Haven University which provides clinical practice rotations for students at our hospital.”

Physician Assistants are qualified to conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illness, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions. Throughout the U.S., according to the American Academy of Physician Assistants, this team of healthcare pros treated about 260 million patients and prescribed or recommended about 350 million medications in the year 2012.
