Anne M. Bates, 99, formerly of Bradford, PA

Anne M. Bates, 99, formerly of Bradford, PA, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Lakeside Beikerch Care Center in Brockport, NY.

Born December 20, 1914 in Richardsville, she was a daughter of the late Lucius and Bertha (Young) Bartlett.

On August 30, 1935 in Bradford , she married William C. Bates, who died February 21, 1987.

Mrs. Bates was a graduate of Bradford High School.

She worked as a Secretary and Bookkeeper for the Salvation Army and then for The Boy Scouts of America, from where she retired after many years of service.

She was very active in The First Wesleyan Church, where she played the organ and sang in the choir, served as a board member and was also a Sunday School Teacher.

She is survived by two sons Donald (Noreen) Bates, of Rochester, NY and Paul (Diane) Bates of Joppa, MD; daughters in law, Mary Lou Bates and Marie Bates; seven grandchildren, Marcia (Everett) Piper, Mark (Debra) Bates, Debra (Joe) Rinck, Kevin (Twyla) Bates, Brian (Susan) Bates, Shelley (Mark) Rannie and Steven (Joni) Bates; 15 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister in law, Grace Bartlett and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Merle Bates and Jack Bates; four brothers, Dwight (Myrna) Bartlett, Curt (Evelyn Hogue) Bartlett, Ted (Berta) Bartlett and Benn (Lola) Bartlett and a sister, Emily (Ernie) Ostberg.

Friends are invited to call from 4-7 PM, Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, October 1, 2014 in the First Wesleyan Church, with Rev. David Souder, former Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Degolia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to The First Wesleyan Church, 692 South Kendall Avenue, Bradford or to the charity of the donor's choice.
