Marjorie M. “Marge” Rees, 89, of Austin, PA, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford, after a brief illness.

Born September 22, 1924 in Keating Township, she was a daughter of Glen and Clara Coy Earle. On June 27, 1943 in the Austin United Methodist Church, she married Ronald M. Rees, who passed away on February 22, 2002.

Marge was a lifetime resident of the area and was a 1941 graduate of the Austin Area School. She had been employed at GTE Sylvania in Emporium for a brief time and was a homemaker.

She was member of the Austin United Methodist Church. Marge was an avid bowler having bowled on the Mixed Couples League, Wednesday Night Women’s League and the Thursday Morning Women’s League. 

She also enjoyed the outdoors, softball, reading, camping, playing cards, horseshoes, washer boards and attending various sports and school activities with her grandchildren. Her greatest love was her family.

Surviving are a son, Gerald L. “Bear” (Darlene) Rees of Austin; a daughter, Kathy S. (Bruce) Brooks of Austin; a sister, Shirley Garzel of Austin; a brother, Glen Earle, Jr. of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Aric (Shelly) Rees, Dundee (Mike) Nelson, Kimberly (Merritt) Burdick, Travis (Ramona) Rees, Bryan Brooks, and Kaylee Brooks; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marge was preceded in death by a son, Ronald D. Rees; three brothers, Eugene Earle, Richard Earle, and LeRoy Earle; and a sister, Grace Stuart.

Friends may call on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Austin United Methodist Church, Turner Street, Austin, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at which time funeral services will follow with the Rev. Steven D. Small, Jr., pastor of the Southern Potter United Methodist Charge, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Austin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Austin Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 328, Austin, PA 16720.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.

Dear Kathy,
I am thankful for the memories of our mothers together bowling. You and I at the same time sharing these wonderful memories, I know you will follow those precious footsteps of your mom. What a beautiful and kind woman she was, thanks for sharing her memory with me. ((Hugs))
