Sharon Township Supervisors Cut Employees Health Insurance Costs By $46,000.

Sharon Township update

At the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday September 9, the township during public comment heard from a coalition of concerned tax payers/aka citizens of the township on the issue of health insurance for part time employees.

The opinion of the citizen’s group was that as a small township with limited revenue the township should not provide health insurance as a benefit to part time employees.

In the regular session of the meeting a single quote for health coverage for the year for the two part time employees and their family including dental coverage was presented and a unanimous vote from all three supervisors to accept this quote and sign the contract.

The health coverage for 2014 for two part time employees is a $46,000 savings from 2013 coverage.

When the supervisors were ask if it might be brought up to a vote to require an employee contribution of 30% of the cost of the coverage, it was replied that it would have to be brought up for next year’s budget not this year.

The citizens coalition believes that if an employee will not be working a portion of the year that the .25 cents/hour contribution they are presently contributing is an inadequate and is by far much less than most of the working general public is required to contribute through their employer.

The general consensus from the supervisors is that without health coverage the two part time employees would quit as they only make $16/hr and it would be impossible to replace their skill sets.

The citizens coalition reaction is it would be a cost savings to increase the hourly rate without health coverage and let the employee go out and find their own coverage under the affordable health care act.

Also in the meeting is was requested that the each monthly meeting minutes be posted on the township building as required by law in a reasonable timely manner along with a copy of the treasures report.

The supervisors agreed it would be posted although they will be unapproved minutes until the next meeting.

Looking at the bright side, through our efforts we have managed to cut the budget of our township by close to 20% or $46,000.

Congratulations to the citizens that fought the good fight.

Shame on the township supervisors that failed due diligence with our tax dollars and continue to do so.

Your next Sharon Township meeting is Oct. 14, 2014 at 6:00 PM

It may be your road that gets $46,000 repairs next year!!!

Phil, you call yourselves a coalition but from what I am told you are basically just a few fault-finders. A coalition is a group of people ORGANIZED for a cause or mission. Don't flatter yourself. I would like to hear that the supervisors have to say before accepting this editorial as factual information.

Thank you to those of you that met with the supervisors and lowered the cost, allowing more funds to go to road maintenance. The goal should be a reasonable wage/benefits versus industry norms. It is not reasonable to expect to get this type of benefit from any job, much less with Sharon Township. I think this just needed some oversight and a correction as the costs are not in line with industry norms. It appears this situation should have been addressed and resolved long before citizens started chaffing at the untenable spending here on benefits.

Had you been there 4:45 you would have.

At least in Sharon township you have people looking out for things! The Austin borough and the school operate in the red but they just keep hiring more and spending like drunken sailors raising taxes and the h%ll with what the people think!

The members must be Obama supporters as well.

Call it what you like,we forced the supervisors to shop for a better price and saved $46,000. The minutes should be posted on the township building take you lazy ass down and have a look. Facts are facts, last years health ins. cost is a matter of public record and the meeting minutes should reflect the new contract price of $39,000. We feel is still crazy but the fight goes on and you lazy note voting scum bags will reap the benefits. Phil Williams

Not one of you (THE COALITION OF SHARON TWSP.) even mentioned that Roger got another 50,000 (free money for Sharon Twsp.) for a project to be used this following summer!!!! I BELIEVE IT IS FOR THE SCOTT HOLLOW ROAD THIS YEAR. YES IT WAS READ IN THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING. No those projects are NEVER mentioned. 46,000 dollars was saved....BUT ROGER HIMSELF SAVED THE TWSP. 50,000 THAT HE HAS DONE FOR YEARS AND YEARS...LIKE I SAID WELL OVER A MILLION DOLLARS.SOMETIMES ROGER WOULD GET MONIES FOR TWO ROADS IN THE SAME YEAR. BY THE WAY NEITHER ONE OF THESE EMPLOYEES ARE PART TIME.SO GET THAT STRAIGHT PLEASE. YOU PEOPLE DO NOT GET THE STORY OUT IN A TRUE FASHION...YOU DO NOT TELL THE WHOLE STORY. SO PHIL THESE FREE MONIES HAVE ALREADY BEEN USED ON ON MANY MANY ROADS. SO THEY DID NOT HAVE TO WAIT TO GET THE 46,000... YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE THE COST TO DO PROJECTS, OR TO EVEN MAINTAIN THESE ROADS .BELIEVE ME IT TAKES MORE THAN YOUR TAX MONEY. WE PAY TAXES JUST LIKE YOU DO. OH ONE OTHER THING ROGER GETS LAID-OFF IN THE WINTER...TO SAVE THE TWSP. MONEY. IT COMES FROM THE STATE OF PA NOT FROM THE TWSP. OK THE TWSP PAYS LESS THAN 10.00 A YEAR TOWARDS THE UNEMPLOYMENT. I WILL GLADLY GIVE THAT 10.00 BACK. LIKE I SAID YOU PEOPLE ONLY TELL ONE SIDE OF THE STORY AND MOST OF THAT IS NOT EVEN TRUE. SO THERE COALITION FOR THE TWSP. MONICA YOU AND THE COALITION NEED TO GET ALL THE FACTS BEFORE WRITING ABOUT THE TWO EMPLOYEES OF SHARON TWSP. THIS IS REALLY GETTING CLOSE TO HARRASSMENT...ROSALIE BICKLEMAN

Paid to pa unemployment compensation. This is borderline corruption. About time he gets called out.

Mr Williams, I really hope you plan on running for the position of Township Supervisor. I would vote for you... And I would sit back and watch your arrogance destroy a township that has enjoyed NO tax increase for Many Many years, Has well maintained equipment that is not outdated and (I believe) the most road frontage with the smallest tax base... Of course you would also have to fill the position of roadmaster and get certified as a Sewage enforcement officer because it appears you have an axe to grind with Roger as well...all while maintaining your current job (because you sir are NO scumbag)Looking forward to calling your house at 2AM to complain about "the flavor of the day"
