Think About It

Stress Got You?

As I write this I find myself sitting in a waiting room of a hospital. I am with family and friends of one who is about to undergo a long and tedious operation. There is some fear and apprehension by both the family and the patient. What will the outcome be? Will all the cancer be removed? What will be the after effects? Will all functions return to normal? How long will recovery take? But we are not the only ones with these thoughts, for in this same waiting room are at least forty other people waiting for word of their family member and friend. We all trust the hands of the surgeon, the skills of the anesthesiologist and the helping hands of the nurses and others who are assisting. We sit talking among ourselves, reading, or like me, using our computers or tablets to accomplish our work.

There is a young lady from California who has come here by herself without family or friends. She stayed in the same guesthouse as we did last night. This morning we could see that she, like others was afraid and fearful of the unknown. We had an opportunity to pray and offer her comfort that she gladly accepted. Now, she too is in the waiting area waiting for her name to be called sitting quietly by herself, preoccupied with her thoughts and emotions.

We all handle stress differently. Some are quiet and withdrawn, some fidget, while others pace. Jesus said to those that were stressed to lay their burdens upon Him and that He would give them rest. What does this mean and how do we do this under difficult circumstances?

To do this one must have a personal relationship with Him. Then give yourself permission to feel what you are feeling. Finally learn to practice His presence. It’s all about surrender, surrender to His will, and resting in His strength and ability to take you through the circumstance rather than out of it. Your responses may just be what someone else needs to go through theirs. Think about it.

We sing a beautiful hymn in our church titled "I surrender all" in it says...All to thee my precious savior, I surrender all. It's the only way these days to survive out there is to give it all to Jesus. Thank you for your words of wisdom, comfort and love. May God Bless you.
