Police Investigating Credit Card Theft Claims Of Restaurant Patrons

Police investigating dozens of credit card theft claims

By Christopher Michel
Olean Times Herald

OLEAN — Police are investigating an influx of credit card information theft claims by those who recently patronized Oishi Sushi on West State Street.

Within the last five days, local authorities have “received dozens of calls from people saying they’re seeing fraudulent charges on their credit cards,” said Capt. Robert Blovsky of the city’s police department. “And calls keep coming in.”
Authorities say victims used credit cards at the restaurant approximately two weeks ago.

“Everyone that we’ve talked to ate there around the same time,” Capt. Blovsky said. “The (fraudulent) charges didn’t start showing up until this past Saturday and Sunday.”

Capt. Blovsky believes the credit card information — primarily its number and three-digit security code — was being collected and distributed among a network of people.

“Most of the charges aren’t showing up at places in (Olean),” he said “The charges are happening at stores all over the place — Buffalo, Dunkirk, Depew, Hornell, Springville and even Bradford, Pa.”  Read more...

Another example why numbering your forehead is not to far away. Satan is just around the corner.

This is such a bummer. They had good sushi. I would hate to see it go out of business if it was something that was out of the owner's control. He doesn't deserve to lose his business over some hackers or a single bad employee. He seems to be cooperating with the police, and if they get it sorted out I'll still eat there.

Plus, where the hell else am I supposed to get sushi around here? I'll just pay in cash from now on.

I got rid of both my credit & debit cards. They're not safe. I old school it, by going into my bank and withdrawing cash to spend in stores and restaurant's. PayPal's great for online purchases. After, Virgin Mobile "helped themselves" to a triple payment which they refused to refund and a magazine company charged me for 3 expensive magazine subscriptions, I never ordered, I was done.

Now they will be mad that they were caught... No way would I eat there now! What is this world coming to? Better yet who can you trust anymore?

He's thinks his systems were hacked yet all of the cards were used in the local area. I think it's a bad employee. By some of the comments I was reading on Facebook there were employees who would take the cards and say they'd run them but really they disappeared for minutes before returning. It only takes a few seconds to photograph a card.

This will be investigated and the criminals will be charged, and hopefully the lovely folks over at Oishi Steakhouse will learn from it. Unfortunately, this can happen to anyone. They won't lose my business.
