Home Heating Assistance Available Through LIHEAP

Cold weather is on its way back to the region, and the state’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is now open to help eligible residents with home heating costs.

LIHEAP helps low-income people pay their heating bills through home energy assistance grants, which are based on household income, family size, type of heating fuel and region. The program also provides crisis grants to individuals and families in the event of a heating emergency, including broken heating equipment or leaking lines that must be fixed or replaced, lack of fuel, termination of utility service or danger of being without fuel or of having utility service terminated. In most counties, assistance with home heating crisis situations is available 24 hours a day.

The House Game and Fisheries Committee, which I chair, will hold an informational meeting at the state Capitol next week to receive an update about Chronic Wasting Disease in the state’s deer population from officials with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Just a reminder that PennDOT will close all driver license and photo centers on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services online through PennDOT's Driver and Vehicle Services website, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Great News for Natural Gas Customers in Potter County

UGI Utilities Inc. has become the first natural gas utility in Pennsylvania to directly connect its natural gas distribution system with a Utica Shale well. The Utica Shale formation is an even larger resource of natural gas than Marcellus Shale. The interconnection links a Utica Shale well and two Marcellus Shale wells located in northern Tioga County to a UGI high-pressure pipeline. The project is expected to increase the available supply of natural gas for UGI customers in Tioga and Potter counties. For more information, click here

New Legislative Session to Bring Expanded GOP
Majorities, New Governor

As a result of Tuesday’s General Election, the House Republican Caucus will grow from 111 to 119 members in the 2015-16 legislative session that begins Dec. 1. It will be the largest majority the House has seen since the 1957-58 session.

The Republican majority in the Senate will grow as well, from 26 to 30 members.

Members of the General Assembly will be officially sworn in to office on Tuesday, Jan. 6. The newly elected governor, Tom Wolf, will be inaugurated on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

It continues to be my pleasure to serve as your state representative in Harrisburg. Follow the latest legislative news at or
