Denton Hill Ski Patrol Holds Training Session

Denton Hill Ski Patrol Holds Training Session

COUDERSPORT, PA (November 17, 2014) The Denton Hill Ski Patrol held their annual CPR Refresher and Chair Evacuation practice at Ski Denton on Saturday, November 15th in preparation for the upcoming ski season.

Ski Denton has recently announced that it will not be opening for the 2014 – 2015 ski season,
however, the Denton Hill Ski Patrol is hopeful that DCNR will be able to put together some options that may allow Ski Denton to open this year. If Ski Denton is able to open this year, the Ski Patrol wants to make sure that it is ready. According to Paul Ross, Patrol Director, ”Our members are optimistic about the future of Ski Denton and have completed all their required annual first aid and lift evacuationrefresher training and are ready to support the ski area if and when it opens for the season.”

The mission of the Denton Hill Ski Patrol is to provide rescue and First Aid treatment to the skiing public at Ski Denton, and to promote safety and accident prevention in cooperation with the ski area management. The Patrol consists of approximately 35 individuals from the area who have met the training requirements as set forth by the National Ski Patrol.

Each Ski Patrol member completes an initial Outdoor Emergency Care course that is about 180 hours in length. They also complete an extensive course in Ski and Rescue Toboggan handling. After the initial training, the Patrol also holds annual training days that include a CPR Refresher, Chair Evacuation Refresher, Outdoor Emergency Care refresher, and an On-The-Hill Ski and Toboggan Refresher.

The Denton Hill Ski Patrol is an all volunteer organization, and all members patrol an average of 14 to 18 duty shifts each season. For more information about the Denton Hill Ski Patrol, visit our website at: www.dentonskipatrol.org.
