IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME WELL, FRED PETRUZZI OWNED THE EAST SMETHPORT BAR RIGHT BESIDE THE OLD RAIL ROAD SIDING IN EAST SMETHPORT. I BELEIVE A LARGE STONE MEMORIAL FOR THE VETERANS WAS THERE. MY FATHER SPENT A LOT OF TIME THERE DUIRING WWII WHEN I WAS A KID. MY OLDER SISTER DURING THE WAR WOULD PULL DUTY UP THAT OLD TOWER , WATCHING FOR AIRPLANES. SHE SAID SHE HAD TO KEEP COUNT OF THE PLANES SHE HAD SEEN AND THE TAIL NUMBERS IF POSSIBLE.SHE ALSO WORKED AT THE WWII MUNTIONS FACTORY PACKAGING MORTARS WITH FRED LOOP FROM ELDRED. HER HUSBAND WAS IN THE ARMY IN FRANCE WHERE HE GOT THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS HEAD BLOWN OFF. HE SURVIED AS A 100% DAV TILL 1991. HE DIED IN VA HOSPITAL IN JOPLIN,MO. WITH A HEART ATTACK. THEN LATE AT NIGHT WE WOULD HEAR THE AIR RAID SIREN GO OFF AND WE WOULD TURN OFF THE LITES IN OUR HOUSE. TO ME THIS WAS THE GOOD OLD DAYS I LOVE TO REMEMBER. ENOUGH SAID, FRED'S DEAD

Why not hook a cable to the top and zip line across to another spot. Make some money for the area.

I remember the view from the top of the stairs, still have photos taken from it. Wish they would save it and add it to the PA tour sites. It has a beautiful view from it as the Kinzua Bridge does.

What a shame that another piece of history will be destroyed. Too bad government funds can't be allocated to restore and preserve this beautiful bit of our past.

I wish that they would spend half the energy on ridding America of the Democrat and Republican party as they do on destroying historical treasures.

Maybe thwy should sell it to the highest bidder for scrap or better yet, to a private I.dividual to be reconstructed and restored with private funds for people to continue enjoying. Zip lines, fire watches, educational tours...

My oldest son was conceived in that tower.
