Think About It

Are You a Nut?
by: B.J. Knefley

“If it seems that we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit” (2 Corinthians 5:13)

Paul, as you can see from the verse above, wasn’t afraid of being considered a nut. In the passage of scripture from which this verse comes, Paul is talking about being God’s Ambassador. As His Ambassador, Paul saw his responsibility as one that depended not on man’s opinions, but rather upon God’s. He said of those who have become Christians that they have “become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone, a new life has begun!”, (2 Corinthians 5:17). What’s he talking about?

Paul is referring to the old nature, that sinful life that we are all born with. In 2 Corinthians 5:15 he says, “He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live to please themselves. Instead, they will live to please Christ, who died and was raised for them”. The operative word is receive. Paul’s history of being a man who persecuted the Christians is well documented in the Scriptures. But, one day he met Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus and that one encounter changed his life. Paul’s life took a 180-degree turn. He left his old life, and followed Christ with a new life. Those that knew him thought he had gone nuts. But Paul saw this as actually what he needed to do as he was no longer the same man that he used to be. The purpose of his life was now to please Christ.

Those who have encountered Christ are often looked on as being a little nuts or crazy. Like Paul their life changes, things they used to do, they no longer do. Their friends don’t find them to be fun to be around anymore. They are often counseled to “don’t get to religious”, “don’t go overboard”, etc. Yet if they were to talk to Paul, he would encourage them to not let the world be an influence. If you’re not sure where you stand, just ask yourself if there’s enough evidence to convict you of being a nut. If there isn’t then I guess the answer is plain. Think about it.

Thank you Bernie for your stand for Jesus!
I've been called a Jesus nut & so be it, I know where I will spend eternity!
"No weapon formed against me shall prosper & every tongue that rises against me in judgment, the Lord shall condemn it for I'm His heritage & righteousness! I'm so thankful He chose us, He loves us!
