How will the township pay for fire protection then?

That sounds like a stupid idea? What is 3 mills tax $20? That is about how much your insurance will go up not to mention the fact that should a fire occur the fire company will come and then they will charge the homeowner thousands of dollars. I can't believe this makes Coudy look like a bunch of geniuses .

That second sentence makes no sense at all. It reads that eliminating the tax is an undue burden(?). Maybe you need to hire a solicitor.
If you ask township residents by the way I think they would rather have a mill of taxes going to support volunteer fire departments then going to a supervisor to sit in the seat of a truck watching other people work and get paid for it.

Looks like all the feckless dildines who used to be on the Ulysses Township Supervisors must have moved to Allegany Township and got elected.

We need the fire/ambulance company's BUT they could get off their butts more and raise money the old fashioned way. Higher taxes isn't always the answer. They now get unprecedented amounts of grant moneys from various government agency's. I realize it is expensive to run and maintain equipment but the waste i see in some fire company's is disgraceful! I saw a new piece of equipment the other day in my small town that just had been painted with 100% volunteer since 1888 on it . Not quite true since some members have collected a paycheck every month from the fire company for years . This type of thing is what upsets the people when they ask for more money.

2:14--Maybe you could get off your butt and volunteer along with them. I'm sure they would appreciate the extra help when they have to take on additional projects to "raise money the old fashioned way".

Feckless dildines is a good way to describe them. Just one mill for each of the 3 fire departments serving the township is the way to go. The township bungled that whole tax thing this year and divided it wrong. Get it right this year instead of doing away with the baby when you dump out the skanky bath water.

Dec 6 3:28 and 4:09 i wasn't talking about Coudersport i was talking about Austin where the dealings that go on with the fire dept. , Austin dam , borough council , and the school board are done behind closed doors. I have given much in the past only to be put down and bad mouthed by their members! If you ask about dealings you and your family are attacked and ridiculed. In fact i try to support Coudy whenever they have fundraisers. I have never heard of anything bad about Coudy's fire dept. Keep up the good work Mr Chitester and members!

What the hell is wrong with these supervisors? Three whole mills of taxes to protect your property and lives. 2:24, you don't have a clue what you are talking about. These volunteers donate everything, time and money to protect you and everyone else. Now you expect them to continue to fund raise on top of this, to protect you. Talk about selfish. Wait until you see your homeowners insurance bills when you have no fire department protection. How damn stupid are these people?

Ok 857. Since you can be on the computer or phone at these hours i am sure you can show up at the monthly avfd meeting tomorrow at 6 pm. Since we know you will not show i will not prepare any information for you.

We have and will always allow the public to see what we do and help other vfd in how we run things (since 3 other depts have already approached avfd about how we do things)... Doors are always open for anybody to stop in. And if you want to really find out request a right to know because it will be completed for you.

Thanks
THE ENTIRE AVFD

Might I remind Helen Turner and the Twp. supervisors that local governments are REQUIRED BY LAW to provide both Fire and Emergency Medical Services to their population and that protection is NOT free! Allegany Twp. has done what ever they could for as long as I can remember to not have to pay for fire protection. Despite being only the secretary it has been evident for a long time that the secretary runs things and things are done her way or not at all. It information states that the tax had been put in place in 1996. But yet when approached regarding contracts in the past decade the story was that there wasn't the money to pay for fire protection. So, if the tax was being collected and not being paid to the departments involved, that sounds a lot like mis-appropriation of funds to me. Perhaps someone needs to contact that state Auditor General as well as the state Attorney General and State Fire Commissioner.

My suggestion to the Coudersport, Tri-Town and Genesee Fire Departments..... let them get their own protection. Drop them like a hot potato. They will quickly find out just how much protection costs. Not to mention the insurance companies canceling everyone's home owner's insurance.

To those that think that the local departments need to spend more time raising their own money, perhaps you should donate more of your time and money to them. I don't see the highway departments or any of the town supervisors out BBQing chicken or frying fish or doing bingo. Since Allegany Twp has so many money issues perhaps it is time to desolve the township and incorporate it into the surrounding townships. They obviously can't pull their own weight now. They want everything for free.

The old fashioned way- meaning exactly what? Bake sales? Coin tosses? Pancake breakfasts? Why should they? Why shouldn't the municipality and taxpayers provide them with the needed funding? When's the last time you saw the cops having a bake sale to buy a new patrol car?

This is great. So glad to see some interest in this. I hope you all come out to the meeting. I for one Allegany Township resident would much rather see the money towards making our roads better and safer. The fire companies are already getting monies from our township so it's not like we won't still have protection. As for the supervisors getting paid. Come on out and see just how much they get paid for a thankless job.
