Sweden Valley Manor Annual Christmas Party

Sweden Valley Manor Annual Christmas Party

Sweden Valley Manor hosted their Annual Christmas Party for patients, residents and their families. The day consisted of hors d’oeuvres, carved ham with all the fixings followed by Christmas carols and Santa Claus.

Each resident and patient was adopted by either an employee of Sweden Valley Manor or a community group. This assured that each resident/patient received at least one gift from Santa.

The afternoon was filled with the sounds and sights of Christmastime. Children from the Austin School District arrived donned with Santa hats to sing Christmas carols; Barb Headley, Resident Services Coordinator of Sweden Valley Manor played lovely piano music; the lounges, the dining room and the activity room were exquisitely decorated to welcome each guest.

Keeping with the magic of the season, no one was aware that Santa Claus was really Congressmen Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 5th congressional district. Congressman Thompson, originally was to attend the Garden Party this past August, but was called in to Congress at the last minute. He promised to visit in the near future. Congressman Thompson handed out all gifts to each resident and patient. He also took the time for photo opportunities and visited residents in their rooms.

Activity Coordinator Debbie McKee, recently named the Volunteer Alzheimer’s Association Ambassador for the 5th district, works closely with Congressman Thompson and his office in order to pass the National HOPE for Alzheimer’s Act – Health Outcomes, Planning, and Education (HOPE) for Alzheimer’s Act (S.709 / H.R. 1507).

So nice for Austin and other schools to do things like this!
