$971,413. DEP Grant Will Be Used For Acid Mine Projects In Norwich Township

Railroad Run
GROWING GREENER GRANT NEWS !

The McKean County Conservation District is excited to learn of the recent award of $ 971,413.00 in Growing Greener grant funds through DEP.

The funds will be used for two acid mine drainage (AMD) projects in Norwich Township, McKean County. The streams of Hamlin Run and Railroad Run are currently impaired due to historical coal mining at the headwaters of both streams.

Watershed assessments were conducted with assistance from DEP, Trout Unlimited, Hancock Forest Management, and Hedin Environmental to determine needs for both streams. The goal of the projects is to raise the alkalinity and pH of the streams through treatment systems. Planning and design of the treatment systems will begin this summer.
