Gambling Proceeds Fuel Local Fire, Ambulance Grants

emergservLocal emergency response organizations been awarded grants from the state, using money generated from state-licensed gambling operations. Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or debt reduction. 

In Potter County, $7,445 grants were awarded to Gale Hose Fire Company of Galeton, Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Assn. and Kettle Creek Ambulance Assn. Austin Volunteer Fire Department received $7,445 for EMS operations and $14,008 for fire company operations. Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department and Tri-Town Fire Company of Ulysses each got $14,285. Genesee Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $7,445 for EMS operations and $11,792 for fire company operations; Germania Fire Company, $11,792; Goodyear Hose Company of Galeton, $11,515; Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Company, $13,731; Kettle Creek Hose Company of Cross Fork, $11,792; and Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department, $7,445 for EMS operations and $12,346 for fire company operations.

That is awesome news. But think how much more they could have gotten if every one that touches the revenue in Harrisburg had not taken their cut.

Sad to say but without grant money being handed out Austin would have to shut the doors.

Gale Hose is NOT a Fire Company...They are EMS only
