SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---James R. Gross, 80, of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away at home on Friday, January 30, 2015, after a short illness.

US Navy Veteran
Born May 23, 1934 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of George and Della Brown Gross. He married Esther R. Lloyd who predeceased him. He later married Charlotte Tanner who survives.

He was a graduate of Shinglehouse High school where he was a standout basketball player. Mr. Gross honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he was a golden glove boxer.

Jim was employed for 31 years by National Fuel Gas in Hebron, PA as a sub foreman retiring on April 1, 1996.

He was a life member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving besides his wife are three children, Gary C. Gross of Erie, Tim L. Gross of Shinglehouse, and Sam M. (Randy) Williams of Shinglehouse; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Cheryl (Dick) Bryant of Clara; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Jim was predeceased by a daughter, Debra North; a son, Gordon Gross; and two brothers, Robert Gross and Jerry Gross.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, funeral services are being held privately with burial in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530, PO Box 25, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
