Remember when about a year ago the salaries of the township supervisors all through Potter County were published in the paper? And Genesee was absurdly high? Looks like you folks aren't getting what you're paying for!

Same in Sharon township glare of ice no sanding of roads at all

Anonymous said...

Listen to the weather reports 24/7/365 and prepare accordingly.

They can also buy another brand new pickup so it can be parked at the roadmasters house just so his brother-in-law would have a nicer truck to drive home to Wellsville NY. The roadmaster and secretary are two of the highest paid township employees in the state but can't afford to maintain the roads better. Genesee township employees=piss poor maintained roads.

It`s not like everyone wasn`t warned about the pending road conditions... They send out these warnings for a reason.

I too had to rescue my wife at 2:30 this morning on the Wildcat road in Sharon Township. Thank goodness for studded snow tires. Even so very treacherous. Use some of the 86000.00 dollars for road maintenance. Must be your road crew was scared too.

Don't know the circumstances, but if it's a crowned gravel twp. road and it's SOLID ice - don't try to navigate it without tire chains. Even then they are sometimes impassable until heavily cindered? Takes time to chain up a cinder truck and get to each and every trouble spot during an ice storm and road men can't be everywhere at the same time.

My husband was trying to help a friend (that so happens to live on one of these township roads) that is ill. He said that there was NO signs of a township truck anywhere. Because of this my husband was not able to get them. This is NOT the first time they've neglected our roads & cost us money. There are a number of the roads that are so rough that the fields are better driving.

that is the truth1!! They all are getting paid way way to much and do not do the work---when you call to complain they say "too bad" you live on the hills----deal with it. time for some new blood in there.

Anyone who works on the roads know that part of their job is winter maintenance and being out plowing and sanding when everyone else is home. Township employees work for the people of the township to keep the roads safe for them. I'm afraid sometimes they forget they are public servants. Genesee township has been able to pay their employees high wages and afford all this new equipment to better maintain the roads so there is no excuse that the roads were NOT maintained. It was the employees duty to continue on sanding the roads especially when they were called to sand them. Please Genesee township residents speak up....go to the meetings. Your voice needs to be heard. Only you can change the circumstances.

News flash. To start with most townships have dirt roads. You can't put salt on dirt roads because it turns them into mush when they thaw. This leaves most townships using cinders or sand only for treating their roads. This acts as an anti-skid control. It does nothing for the ice build up on the roads.

So these stones sit on top of the ice. Boom! Here comes a rain storm. Ice is still ice and is still slick, now the water is cleaning all of that anti-skid off the ice while at the same time producing a nice clean, extra slippery surface.

So now your township crews, most of which only have two or three trucks, are out laying down material in the rain. They go up and down one road, and soon after the rain washes everything they just did away.

The people who live in areas prone to icy roads should know this happens all the time. If you don't want to spend the money on tire chains or studded tires, maybe you should stay home. It's not like there was two days notice that we were getting an ice storm.

As for the salaries of your ELECTED officials, if you aren't satisfied with the way things are, I suggest you show up at your township meetings and voice your concerns. If that doesn't solve the problem, there are these things every November called elections.

ok we all know we choose to live in potter county an on hills dirt roads we all have trucks, cars, suvs, what ever 4x4 ok ok... BUT THE TOWNSHIP PERSONAL WERE ELECTED ( DAM by us)
OR HIRED TO DO THEIR JOB. an if you think about it they live on main roads so they could give a shiv (t) less how are roads are lets hope WE don't need fire trucks or ambulance hope these girls got home ok

Can't really voice your opinions at the genesee township meetings because when you say something the supervisors and roadmaster do not like you are told to leave. They are all drinking buddies and dont like people that disagree with them. Time to run there worthless asses out and turn this township around.

looks like genesee twp is hard at work. LOL. if is after 5pm or the weekend forget about them doing anything. hell they wont touch that road for about 2wks. along with every other dirt road. they have all the heavy equipment to do the work but use the pick up and plow th clear roads. no sand, cinders or salt. dont believe it travel the roads in the morning and watch. they get paid by the state to do some roads and cant even get them cleared. highest paid twp in potter. with more employees than ever. still cant get it done. years ago there was elmer and a helper who were able to keep roads clean and road maintenance with know problem. said how times change.

My biggest question as a Genesee resident and taxpayer is how does a township of only 800 people come up with the money to constant buy brand new expensive equipment and pay their employees the ungodly excessive salaries that they make.

Anonymous said...

Genesee has painted themselves in a corner. They insisted in having all big equipment (plow trucks with the plow, wing, and a load of anti-skid) can weigh as much as 70,000+ on a road posted for 20,000 pounds. Then you have to take into consideration that the material them make in their pit for the roads is mostly screened round rocks and clay. That just doesn't make a road. Occasionally they bring in a crusher and do up the screened big rocks, and that makes fairly good material, but no where near enough. Then one must take into consideration the ditches are full (quite a lot of this is plowed in there by the wing plow when the roads haven't yet frozen. Just the brine they put on in the summer, when wet, turns to slime and washes into the ditch line or blows away in the form of dust, and there goes the road. Add to this the fact that water runs down a lot of the roads because there isn't any crown (sometimes caused by running the huge plow trucks and causing ruts when the roads are not yet frozen) to direct the water to the already full ditches.
This will all come to an end someday when the powers at be decide to retire when the roads are junk, they have paid themselves many more thousands of dollars, the equipment is worn out.
On another note, I have been told there are taxpayers that have been trying to find out what the Township has done with the money collected for Solid Waste. I hear there are so many answers to those questions, it boggles the mind.

Good luck Genesee Taxpayers, it looks like you are going to need it.

Ceres Twp. doing a great job. Supervisors and road crew are hearing the residents and getting things done. Bob

These 2 employees think they they function anyway they want. The one who makes over 60k a year has his brother as one supervisor which should be a conflict, his next door neighbor is the second supervisor and his good friend is the third supervisor. No wonder he gets whatever he wants. maybe they should be given a pay raise.

Why are al you people running your mouth on Soloman's words. What good is it going to do?? The place to run your mouth is at the township meeting and at the election board. Some of you shouldrun if you can do better

Anonymous said...

judging by an earlier post this may very well be the only time one can speak without being booted out of the meetings or told to shut up

To Sunday Jan 4th@ 8:20pm....Just doing the JOB in the first place would be doing a better Job. Oh and it's on here because you got the original post removed from Genesee Pa's Facebook page because it made your husband look bad.

All I can say is West Branch Township was on it and there were no problems. They are the real deal. Best maintained township roads in the county. They must watch the weather forecast and prepare. Good job!

Anonymous said...

Still no answers on the solid waste fees, residents being told to get out of township meetings, residents being called f'n d!cks, township equipment being used for personal use by a select few, and a hostile takeover of the park by much of the same family. Welcome to Genesee.

video, tv and the internet goes a long ways in providing proof of misconduct at meetings

Anonymous said...

It is legal to video public meetings, but you must announce before taping. It does get action as I saw it work in another Township. Take your camera and invite the news media to the meeting too.

Anonymous said...

You can video record any public meeting. You have no expectation of privacy at a public meeting. However that being said, most municipalities will advertise that their meeting are recorded or televised.
