VIEW FROM MY FRONT PORCH

by MizMonica Thomas
As I sit here finishing this column my eyes drift to the snowflakes drifting in the wind outside the window and the PA Gardeners Magazine setting on the coffee table. I'm having a hard time concentrating folks as here comes more snow but I'm thinking of spring.

I wish to apologize to the American Legion Post #530, an editing problem neglected to change a typo I made. They gave the kids at the Arts & Humanities Club $500.00 not $100.00. It was greatly appreciated by all and what a great group we have here in town.

It is with great sadness I write this as we have lost one of the most gracious coffee guys I ever met at the Lenten Lunches, fellow gardener and apple grower Leo Stout, blessings to your family as you move onto your heavenly reward.

At the Elementary school this week the Pre School is having a Snow Day Event on Friday. Mrs. Lewis has held tryouts for "That's OV Entertainment VI" The performances will be March 19 & 20.

It's a busy week at the Middle/High School for on Thursday night Jan. 22 at 6:00 Junior High & Varsity Wrestling hosted Sheffield Area in the Elementary Gym and at the MS/HS Gym Boys JV & Varsity Basketball Games vs Cameron County at home. ( There was a special Intramural Exhibition hosted by the 4,5, 6 graders basketball group). Friday the 23rd JO Wrestling Elementary gym 6pm. Saturday mornings boys and girls 4,5,6th grade intramurals will be happening beginning at 10 am. Monday night the 26th JO Wrestling Elementary gym 6pm. The girls Basketball teams will host Austin at 6 on Tuesday the 27th and Wednesday night Boys JV & Varsity Basketball 6:00 vs Smethport, also that night JO Wrestling 7:00 Elementary Gym.

The library is raffling a KA-BAR Tanto knife w/ sheath. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The drawing will take place February 9th at the soup & sandwich dinner at the school. "Story Hour" for children ages newborn to 4 is this Friday from 10:30-11:30. Storytellers Barb Herzog and Valerie Shaffer will be showcasing the "Sheep in the Jeep" series. Monday night @6 the "Stitch Together Knit & Crochet" group meets. The Writer's Guild had to reschedule for Wednesday the 28th at 6:30.

0n Saturday night you'll notice lots of traffic around the Masonic Hall as the Shinglehouse Community Choir will be hosting their Murder Mystery Dinner "Celebrity Celebrations", it's rumored some of the famous from Hollywood's heyday will be present. I need to finish my costume or miss Scarlett O'Hara won't be in attendance.

So drop in and sit a spell on the porch with me, Alba or our new cat Dasiey Mae or we can be reached at 814-697-7625, mizmonica@frontier.com or my facebook page to report information about what your organization is planning or news of the Oswayo Basin.
