Galeton Rotary Meeting

Right Kerry Gyekis, Left Henry Lush
At a recent Galeton Rotary Club meeting Kerry Gyekis, Vice President of the Cougar Rewilding Foundation spoke to the club about the history of cougars (mountain lions) in the United States..Today they are mainly found in the mountains of the far west, however there are reports of cougars venturing to the east.

Cougars were once found throughout Pennsylvania, however, the last cougar killed in the state was in the mid to late 19th century.

Reports of cougar sightings are being reported in Wisconsin, Michigan and even one was hit and killed by a motor vehicle in Connecticut.

Kerry reported that the environment in Potter Co. would support a cougar population, but no verifiable sightings have yet been confirmed.

The next week was a social affair at the Old Antlers Inn. No cougars were spotted.

This week the club met at the Ox Yoke Inn with President Pete Folk presiding.. Lisa Pitre, rehab specialist at Cole Memorial Hospital spoke to the club about the services in the excellent rehab department at Cole. Her specialty is in treatment of lymphoma patients.
