Route 22/322 Bridge Work to Re-start this Month near Lewistown

Lewistown –Weather permitting, work to repair and rehabilitate seven structures on Route 22/322 in the Lewistown area will re-start later this month. Sign-setting is scheduled to begin Feb. 16. The work zone stretches from the Route 522 interchange to the Business 22 interchange, east of Lewistown. Drivers will encounter lane restrictions eastbound and westbound on Route 22/322 beginning Feb. 23.

Once complete, PennDOT will be able to shorten its list of structurally deficient bridges in Mifflin County. Repairs will also provide area drivers with safer, smoother travel on bridges that will remain in service for years to come.

Cross-overs are expected to be in place later in March, as eastbound lanes are closed and traffic each direction uses the westbound lanes. Barrier will be in place between those temporary lanes, with a lane-width of ten feet. PennDOT will issue a reminder about the cross-overs prior to their implementation.

The traffic crossover this year is expected to last until mid-August. Overall work includes concrete and deck repairs, painting, drainage improvements, guide rail updates, roadway milling and paving, and a westbound permanent message board. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor for this $14.4 million job.

Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, move through work zones with caution, and always buckle up.
